Duties * Vacuum cleans rugs and draperies; shampoos rungs and up holster. * Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment, adjusting and changing buffers, brushes and other attachments as needed. * Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, dusts ledges and woodwork. * Empties cigarette disposal cans and wastebaskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately. * Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds. * May be required to move and set up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events. * Maintains restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition - cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels and soap. * Cleans mirrors and water fountains and performs light maintenance such as changing light bulbs. * When assigned to living quarters, also makes beds, changes linens and collects soiled linen. * Maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and advises supervisor when more are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement. He/she polices outside buildings within ten (10) feet. * Perform other related duties as assigned, including occasional laborer tasks such as applying ice control material, shoveling snow, light mowing and watering lawns around assigned buildings and facilities. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. * Must have the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance eligibility. * Exerts moderately heavy physical effort in controlling heavy equipment, carrying and setting up and working from ladders and scaffolds. * Constantly standing or walking; frequently lifting or moving objects from 30 to 50 pounds. * Exposed to dirt, dust, disagreeable odors and strong cleaning solutions. Qualifications Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects. Must be able to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds and solutions and perform minor maintenance on this equipment.
