Must-Have:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time at a microscope.
- Vision Near Acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
- Depth Perception: Ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Accommodation: Ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus.
- Color Vision: Ability to distinguish and identify different colors necessary to perform job functions.

Description:
Processes specimens and stains smears as per departmental guidelines.
Microscopically examines prepared, stained smears to detect structural abnormalities.
Classifies smears based on cellular knowledge as normal (negative), abnormal, and diagnostic of cancer.
Correlates surgical reports with cytologic findings.
Does not exceed the limit of slides screened set by regulatory standards.
Rotates on technical processing and screening according to the schedule set by the supervisor.
For gynecological specimens, determines which cases should be further evaluated by the cytopathologist.
Formulates and issues diagnostic reports on normal (negative) cases.
Performs follow-up triage on all cases routed to the pathologist before finalizing reports.
Assists with instructional training of medical laboratory technologists, cytotechnology students, residents, fellows, and the orientation of new staff.
Maintains competency in the use of information systems utilized for daily work.
Maintains documentation as it applies to daily workload, follow-ups, and rotation assignments.
Attends fine needle aspiration procedures and assists the physician as needed.
Participates in the continuing medical education program.
Engages in quality improvement programs in the laboratory, including the development of new or improved methods and procedures.
Maintains laboratory equipment and documents for preventive maintenance and corrective actions.
Answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
Takes and relays messages for laboratory personnel, supervisor, and division head.
Relays all cytology results to clinicians.
Carries out any tasks related to cytopathology as assigned by the supervisor or pathologists.
Primarily conducts PAP screening on Thin Prep imager, with the possibility of screening fine needle aspirations and onsite adequacy.
