Job Description:

The Data Designer I gathers and translates business data extraction and consumption requirements into technical specifications, ensure proper data ingestion, curation, and consumption. This role clarifies solution designs that support business strategies and analytical initiatives, especially when requirements are unclear. This role documents, prototypes and validates current and future state data flow processes. This role provides subject matter expertise by identifying relevant business processes affecting data curation and explaining their impact on data.

Day to day: This role will work in the technology team of the Data group of the bank and will work closely with Analytics teams to provide all the support for back-end data requirements

Depth & Scope:
  • Experienced working professional role providing specialized business support, within their own area of specialty
  • Requires experienced, conceptual and practical knowledge within their own specialty
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and fluent in at least one programming language
  • Leads projects or work streams within broader projects with moderate risk and may be accountable for managing ongoing activities processes and functional programs
  • Accountable for own work and sometimes others; acts as an escalation point or knowledge resource for others in their own area
  • Experience working with very large datasets and familiarity with big data technologies
  • Able to work with minimal direction on multiple projects and priorities
  • Keeps abreast of rapid business and technology innovation within business information management field
  • Familiar with visualization tools


Education & Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate, and/or;
  • 2+ years of relevant experience from a business administration, statistical, mathematical, scientific or financial background


Customer Accountabilities:
  • Develops and promotes data models using industry standard modeling tools
  • Assesses business requirements by researching / analyzing and documenting business data requirements
  • Defines, builds and manages data dictionary / catalog for respective data platforms, systems / servers /applications
  • Ensures metadata and data lineage is captured and compatible with enterprise metadata and data management tools and processes
  • Runs quality assurance reports and resolve data integrity issues to ensure accurate reporting and data records
  • Gathers, reviews, analyzes, profiles, validates, and maps system data into the prototyping solution for further integration within data warehouse
  • Ensures reporting and analytical business needs are met
  • Develops solutions and recommendations for improving data quality and data integrity issues
  • Analyzes data issues and work with development teams to resolve issues
  • Understands data initiatives and capabilities, data governance principles and how they apply to the business segment
  • Ensures business data and information is retained and disposed in compliance with enterprise data standards, policies and guidelines
  • Contributes to various data activities and processes as assigned
  • Is knowledgeable of practices and procedures within own area of responsibility and keep updated on emerging trends for own functional area
  • Protects the interests of the organization - identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high risk activities as necessary
  • Participates in and help implement continuous process / improvements
  • Identifies, recommends and effectively executes standard practices applicable to the discipline
  • Adheres to internal policies / procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines
  • Keeps updated on emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts; Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite


Shareholder Accountabilities:
  • Collaborates with technology and business teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery of data solutions
  • Facilitates data analysis and investigations for business users and QA teams, assists with data issues and validates business cases during development and testing phases
  • Provides support on business impact post-implementation, ensures the data solution meets the intended business outcomes during the warranty period
  • Coordinates business requirements with technical teams with a goal of ensuring smooth integration of data into source code repositories and promoting effective source code management practices
  • Is an active participant of business and technical design reviews, ensures that data architectures meet both operational and business objectives
  • Raises and manages change requests in collaboration with business stakeholders, supports release management processes and ensuring timely delivery
  • Understands data governance and data management initiatives to ensure business requirements align with enterprise data governance policies
  • Ensures business metadata and data lineage are well-documented and integrated with enterprise metadata management tools, facilitates better business understanding
  • Adheres to best practices for data security, ensures both technical and business aspects are protected from common vulnerabilities
  • Documents business requirements and technical decisions, ensures risks, lessons learned, and enhancement opportunities are communicated across teams
  • Helps safeguarding the organization's interests by identifying business risks, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines
  • Stays current on industry trends, grows knowledge of business processes, data tools, and best practices to improve collaboration between business and technology teams
  • Adheres to internal policies / procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines
