Data Engineer

The Foundation seeks a Data Engineer for our Information Technology department.

Position Summary:

The Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain robust data architecture that supports integrations, analytics and reporting. This role involves working across the entire data lifecycle-from data ingestion and storage to processing and visualization-ensuring that data is accurate, accessible, and actionable for business decision-making.

Position Description:

Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:
  • This role requires proficiency across a range of technologies, including programming languages, data frameworks, and database systems. You will build robust and scalable data solutions.
  • You will collaborate closely with various teams to understand their data requirements and ensuring that the data architecture supports their needs, fostering a data-driven culture across the foundation.
  • Empower End-users to access and analyze data independently. This focus on user-friendly design emphasizes the importance of making data easily consumable for informed decision-making.
  • Manage and optimize SQL and NoSQL databases to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into a centralized data warehouse or data lake.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to integrate AI technologies into data workflows for enhanced insights.
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs for data access and integration with other applications, ensuring secure and efficient data flow.
  • Implement data quality checks and monitoring systems to ensure data integrity and compliance with governance policies.
  • Create and maintain dashboards and visualizations using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or custom web applications to present data insights effectively.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data architecture, processes, and workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and deliver solutions.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a strong portfolio of projects demonstrating your expertise.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Java.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including data modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with web development technologies like Next.js and React.
  • Experience with cloud data services (e.g., Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Microsoft Fabric).
  • Experience with data integration platforms (e.g., Workato, MuleSoft).
  • Proficient in using Git for version control and collaborative development.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to support reporting and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of security best practice and implementing secure solutions.

Mellon is committed to providing compensation that is competitive and equitable within the philanthropic sector. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $142,000 - $160,000. The amount of pay offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to qualifications, unique skills, credentials, or experience that is expected to impact the candidate's contribution to the role. We will also consider market data as well as the Foundation's internal pay equity framework.
