Data Science Lead

To help us reach the next level, we're looking for a Data Science Lead to join our team.

In this high-impact individual contributor role, you'll report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and play a critical part in advancing our data science strategy and execution. You'll work hands-on to develop and optimize machine learning models that enhance production performance, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across our artificial lift optimization platform.

We're looking for a technically strong, collaborative data scientist who brings experience mentoring and informally leading others and an interest and desire to grow into a people leader within a fast-paced, scaling environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys solving real-world industrial problems, and wants to shape the future of data science at Ambyint.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop, operationalize, and maintain implementations of complex, multifacetted algorithms that drive production optimization, reduce downtime, and improve operational decision-making
• Tab into your toolbox ranging from machine learning, deep learning, numerical optimization, Bayesian statistics, control theory to physics models to develop solutions that drive maximum impact for customers
• Provide guidance and support to peers and junior team members, contributing to a culture of learning, technical excellence, and cross-functional collaboration
• Translate business and operational goals into data science solutions, aligning projects with product and engineering roadmaps
• Work with large-scale industrial datasets from IoT and SCADA systems to detect anomalies, uncover optimization opportunities, and develop closed-loop control algorithms
• Partner closely with engineering, product, and field operations to integrate data science solutions into production systems and ensure alignment with stakeholder needs
• Stay current with emerging techniques, tools, and best practices in machine learning and industrial data science, bringing fresh perspectives to the team
• Help shape data science processes and best practices that position the team for future growth and impact
• Represent Ambyint at external forums, panels, and conferences. Share your expertise, present research findings, and contribute to Ambyint's reputation as a thought leader in the data science and energy optimization fields.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related discipline
• 7+ years of deep experience applying data science, numerical optimization and control theory to real-world problems, ideally in industrial, energy, or IoT contexts
• Demonstrated experience mentoring peers or junior team members in technical domains
• Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
• Experience working with complex datasets from industrial systems, including SCADA and IoT infrastructure
• Proficient in cloud platforms, SQL, Snowflake, and data pipeline tools (ETL/ELT)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technical insights to non-technical audiences
• A passion for solving complex challenges, driving innovation, and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team environment
• Proven ability to lead informally by mentoring peers, fostering collaboration, and driving projects forward without direct authority
