Become a Data Science, Senior Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be responsible for working closely with internal clients, SMEs, information architects, data engineers, process leads, project/program managers, and other teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make data informed business decisions.
You will work with the technology organization and business end-users to understand data and analytics needs and develop analytical solutions. You'll make decisions daily to support internal clients across the company in solving complex problems and creating values. You will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets, building advanced analytics models, and generating actionable insights to support decision-making and drive business outcomes. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, leveraging advanced statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and AI technology to solve real-world problems.
You will be accountable for partnering with OU clients to understand business problems, identify opportunities for improvement, and incorporate analytics solutions into business processes, to ensure analytics solutions deliver positive business value and are directly associated with OU goals.
You will also work closely with the Principal Manager and Senior Manager in developing technology roadmap with a focus on people, process, and technology. You will be supporting Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence, partnering with OU data science teams to mature data scientist community of practice, experiment new tools and technologies, and facilitate training and forums.

Responsibilities
- Partners with stakeholders to understand business problems and objectives and translates them into data science solutions, providing thought leadership and creativity in solving unconventional problems
- Leads and provides direction to other analytic teams across the organization, spearheads development of highly complex predictive and prescriptive models to drive data insights
- Defines new data collection sources and methods and makes strategic recommendations for data practices (collection, preparation, quality)
- Establishes standards and identifies techniques to solve data quality and integrity problems
- Leads development and maintenance of models, tools and methods for highly complex analytics problems
- Engages business OUs to solve critical issues and identify optimization opportunities, performs sophisticated analytics and translates into actionable insights
- Applies machine learning concepts and authors production-level code to provide innovative ideas and research to improve decision making
- Identifies opportunities to apply data science and predictive analytics to help solve the most critical business challenges
- Establishes scalable, automated processes for large-scale data analysis, modeling, validation and implementation
- Leverages relationships with data science individuals at other utilities and vendors and participate and present in relevant industry forums and groups to promote SCE's approach
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Analytics.
- Seven or more years of experience in data analytics related work.*PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, business analytics = 2 years of experience credit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or business analytics.
- Broad understanding of the electric utility industry and its regulatory environment.
- Seven or more years of experience using Machine Learning methods such as deep learning, Bayesian methods, time series analysis, boosting, and bagging.
- Formulate high-level business goals as data science problems. Identify appropriate machine learning or data mining algorithms to solve various electric utility problems.
- Capable of learning from state-of-the-art technical articles and reports. Has the ability to tailor state-of-the-art algorithms to solve the problem at hand, Has the ability to create insightful interpretations of the results.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical content to non-technical audience at all levels, including individual contributor, frontline manager, middle management, and executives.
- Three or more years of experience using GCP, Azure, Snowflake, and PowerBI.
Additional Information
- This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
