Job Title: Data Scientist, Accounting

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Job Summary:

The Data Scientist, Accounting is responsible for both identifying and proposing action based of data-back insights, as well as the overall financial health and integrity of the company's accounting operations. This role involves the responsibilities traditionally held by a financial controller such as managing accounting records, producing financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial analysis to support strategic initiatives. This position will lead the accounting team and ensure efficient and accurate financial processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts.
    • Create meaningful data analytics from multiple data sources
    • Provide insightful financial analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
    • Review monthly account reconciliations
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls.
    • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
    • Manage and improve the ERP system and other accounting software.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop and manage the annual budget process.
    • Prepare and monitor financial forecasts.
    • Analyze budget variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal tax filling requirements.
  • Team Leadership and Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
    • Set performance goals and provide regular feedback.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Assign and review the work of accounting personnel.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Streamline accounting procedures and workflows.
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's degree preferred).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and other accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of excel.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team.
