Description

Orbis is seeking a senior data scientist to help lead a consulting team supporting our client in the Intelligence Community. On this project, the data scientist will have the opportunity to demonstrate intellectual agility, will have the opportunity to self-start, and enjoy the rapid pace of a small team environment. This is a mission critical project and features the opportunity to interact with a wide range of key stakeholders, including those at senior levels and provide ground level input into the design of a mission facing system. This is an exciting opportunity for an intellectually curious and creative person to work on a project with real impact helping our client develop their system efficiencies and support to mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and elicit requirements from stakeholders at varying levels
  • Consult with clients on the development, prioritization and implementation of new data architecture
  • Implement new data ingest, databasing, and data analysis solutions for the customer to drive analysis and mission success for the customer
  • Demonstrate creativity to develop recommendations for the building and implementation of a new system
  • Work along a small team to perform rapid development to solve customer problems-often being the only data professional on a project team
  • Provide project updates in a timely and succinct manner
  • Brief analytic findings to project managers and analysts in casual and formal settings

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • A Bachelor's degree is required for this position.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a consulting role in the IC.


  • Active TS/SCI Clearance with Poly
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Python
  • At least one year experience in developing and implementing data architecture or ETL processes
  • Familiarity in using and standing up diverse database types such as SQL, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, and Neo4j
  • Demonstrated ability to shape technology implementation to fit mission requirements
  • Ability to stand up your own coding development environment with minimal assistance on various computer systems to facilitate data analysis (i.e. Anaconda, Jupiter Notebook, Spyder, etc.)
  • Experience performing data parsing and analysis through custom scripted solutions
  • Experience utilizing full text database, indexing, or federated search solutions to perform customer analysis
  • Experience developing in an airgapped environment
  • Experience working with computer networking data and performing computer network analysis
  • Familiarity with technical targeting tools and analysis
  • Experience in graph analysis and tools to perform it (i.e. NetworkX, Neo4j, etc.)
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and tools to perform it (i.e. SpaCy, etc.)
  • Experience performing geospatial analysis on large datasets utilizing database and code library solutions (PostGIS, GeoPandas, etc.)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Routine video conference and/or in-person meetings.
  • Ability to attend planned meetings within the Washington Metro Area region.
