The Data Services and Quality Manager is essential in bridging data management with the operational and strategic needs across the university, ensuring vital departments like Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Admissions, Advising, and Financial Aid have the data they need to function effectively. By providing Human Resources with accurate payroll data, supporting Academic Affairs with necessary accreditation information, equipping Admissions and Advising with insights for recruitment and retention, and enabling the Financial Aid department to allocate resources efficiently, this role underscores the foundational importance of data in sustaining the university's core missions of teaching, learning, and student support. This collaborative engagement not only fosters departmental efficiencies but also enhances the university's ability to achieve its strategic objectives, maintain accreditation standards, and ensure a vibrant academic community.
The Data Services and Quality Manager is entrusted with the comprehensive oversight of multiple data repositories, including Argos, which encompasses more than 1,800 live reports. Their responsibilities extend to aiding over 30 academic departments by providing essential data to meet accreditation requirements, thereby ensuring the institution's adherence to high standards of academic excellence and regulatory compliance.
Central to this role is the stewardship of the institution's data infrastructure. The Data Services and Quality Manager is tasked with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of multiple data reporting systems. This includes ensuring the integrity, security, and efficient processing of university data across various platforms. Through their expertise in programming and data analysis, the manager not only troubleshoots issues and refines data processes but also crafts
comprehensive reports that inform policy decisions and guide the institution's strategic trajectory.
A key aspect of this position is the collaboration with the Office of Technology to facilitate seamless data integration and transfer between diverse information systems, employing APIs and other sophisticated integration techniques. Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Master's degree in Economics, Statistics CIS, Computer Science, Mathematics, Student Affairs/Student Personnel, Higher Education or related fields preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years in database management, data analysis, and reporting, ideally within an academic setting.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL with extensive experience in database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL. Familiarity with data automation tools and scripting languages, including Python and R, is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects efficiently, prioritize tasks effectively, and manage a team. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams, including technical staff, faculty, and administrative leaders.
