ABOUT THE JOB
The Data Warehouse and Big Data Manager is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and management of both data warehouses and big data solutions, ensuring high data availability and adherence to data standards. This role requires expertise in both traditional data warehousing and big data architectures, including data marts, data stores, and data lakes. The manager will evaluate and select infrastructure components, such as software, hardware, database management systems, and big data tools, to ensure scalable and efficient data ecosystems.LOCATION: Mobile, Alabama area (On-site)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Planning
Assess and establish long-term strategic goals for our production site's data warehousing and data lakes in collaboration with stakeholders, data users, and department managers.
Plan and implement capacity expansions to ensure scalability for data warehouses and data lakes.
Develop data quality standards and protocols to enable efficient use of data in the organization.
Identify inefficiencies, data discrepancies, and quality issues, implementing solutions to ensure data consistency and integrity.
Acquisition & Deployment
Conduct research and recommend products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development.
Evaluate and select components, including hardware, database management systems, ETL software, data mining tools, and metadata management tools.
Operational Management
Collaborate with end users to develop reports and data solutions based on requirements.
Oversee data collection, master data, and databases in our SQL environment.
Support the organization with data that requires complex questions in SQL and Python.
Diagnose and resolve access and performance issues in data warehouses and data lakes.
Execute configurations, updates, and system monitoring within the data ecosystem.
Mentor junior team members and support in building a stronger foundation in database architecture to the data science team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience
Required:
5+ years of data/IT/systems related experience.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in designing, building, configuring, and supporting data warehouses and big data solutions.
Some development experience in any programing language, (preferred Python).
Experience of managing SQL databases and writing complex queries.
Strong understanding of relational database principles, data warehousing best practices, and data lake architecture.
Hands-on experience with relevant areas such as data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and requirements analysis.
Familiarity with network systems.
Demonstrated ability to work in decentralized IT organization.
Preferred:
Proven project management experience.
Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills and experience in team-oriented environments.
Proficiency in big data components such as Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, and Kafka, and knowledge of data security tools like Atlas and Ranger.
Experience working with Microsoft Azure especially ML/AI components.
Education
Required:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field
Preferred:
Master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field
Certifications in relevant technologies are preferred.
