Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field supplemented by two (2) years of Database Administration experience ; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: None.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Extensive knowledge of database concepts, and Sequel Query Language (SQL). Data modeling concepts knowledge, and experience with modern Database such as MS SQL*Server or Oracle. Knowledge of Oracle databases and application servers. Database Performance Tuning and Database High Availability knowledge. Database Backup & recover skills. Familiarity with Performance tuning and Optimization. Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models. Strong communication and collaboration skills, attention to detail, and high level of team work. Must be highly analytical and have a keen sense of problem-solving.

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Purpose of Classification:
A Database Administrator administers relational databases, installing databases and application software and configuring of that database software, assigning database storage space to users, troubleshooting database and configuration problems. Follows established technical standards and guidelines for the effective use of databases, ensuring high availability, performance and reliability. Implements database solutions according to the design and direction of senior Database administrators.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Employee handles database implementation. Implements standard database solution or new solutions in accordance to provided design documents. Installs and configure database software following documented standards. Installs and configure application software.
Performance Monitoring and Tuning is also required. Monitor the state of county databases for optimal performance, reliability and resource consumption. Performs corrective actions and consults with senior staff when necessary. Availability/Backup and Recovery is also a function that this position will work with. Protect data from hardware, software and human failure. Implement disaster-recovery procedures and policies. Implement High-Availability solutions to reduce outages. Provide for and implement database backups.
Implement User and Data Security is a important function of this position. Assign users to database sources and determine appropriate levels of data access to said databases.
Ensure data security through standard server security best practices. Incident diagnosis and resolution is a duty that will be implemented. Monitor Help desk for incident and communicate with application and infrastructure staff to resolve incidents. Assist application staff and implementation teams with incident diagnosis and resolution.
Database management reports will be used to review database configuration. This will be used to modify or confirm desired database configuration. Database storage usage statistics will be used to provide information to management for evaluation.
Performance Aptitudes:
Data Utilization: Utilizes data in order to modify or confirm desired database configuration.
Human Interaction: Requires interaction with IT technical support staff. Diagnosis and repair of database incidents or problems. Design and build of new database resources for new systems.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment and machinery, requiring the monitoring, adjustment, regulation, and/or setting of multiple conditions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.
