Kradwell School is a private alternative school located on the Aurora Psychiatric Hospital grounds.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates and implements day to day running of the program and curriculum. Reviews student transcripts to ensure they are scheduled for appropriate classes. Collaborates with Program Coordinator regarding graduation requirements, projections and credits.
  • Oversees students before school and after school.
  • Monitors student attendance, weekly reports and report cards to watch for behavioral issues and/or patterns of problems. Contacts parents and school districts as needed.
  • Meets with students to discuss discipline and behavioral issues, and works with teachers, parents, referral sources, and therapists to discuss these issues. Coordinates intervention meetings designed to develop strategies for behavior improvement. Determines and communicates corrective action plans for students, and improvement plan with all stakeholders. Issues suspensions and chairs back-to-school meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with Teachers, therapists, and families to develop and execute transition planning for upcoming graduates. Holds transition meetings with seniors. Coordinates with outside public agencies, organizes college, technical colleges and the trades to visit the school and students. Works closely with Transition Teacher.
  • Assists the principal in the preparation of employee performance evaluations by providing feedback on teachers maintaining students' behaviors and high academic standards in the classroom.
  • Conducts preliminary interviews with potential new hires prior to meeting Director. Conducts new staff orientations and staff mentorship.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the students served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Teacher License issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), and OR
  • Teacher, Special Education certification issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).


Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.


Experience Required:
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in teaching, demonstrating competence to motivate emotionally disturbed, learning disabled and/or behaviorally disabled population.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Must demonstrate public speaking, leadership, and motivation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated through establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents, other teachers, administrators and students.
  • Proficient computer skills including experience with spreadsheets and word processing programs.
  • May require the teaching license in a specific subject, field of concentration, student population or area of special needs.
  • Classroom management abilities.
  • Ability to work with a challenging student population exhibiting emotionally disturbed, learning disabled and behaviorally disabled issues.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Will frequently be required to lift up to 10 pounds without assistance.
  • Will occasionally be required to lift over 10 pounds with assistance.
  • May be exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders and twist.
  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Pay Range
$32.45 - $48.70
