Job Summary

The Dean provides administrative and academic leadership for the students, faculty and programs in the College.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise Department Heads, faculty, and staff in the College.
  • Review systemically all academic programs in the College on a quadrennial basis.
  • Develop new programs consistent with the mission of the University that are viable and that have market potential.
  • Develop initiatives to promote student success and engagement.
  • Increase the number of significant scholarly contributions and publications by the faculty in the field.
  • Certify the completion of program requirements for graduation for candidates majoring in an academic discipline offered by the College.
  • Create an environment that fosters excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations within the university.
  • Establish collaborative partnerships with local school districts, colleges, universities, and community organizations.
  • Teach at least one course per semester in the area of expertise in the College of Education.
  • Attend meetings of the Council of Academic Deans, convocations, commencements, faculty meetings, and other official events of the University.
  • Maintain the accreditations of the programs in the College.
  • Execute other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Qualifications

Minimum:
  • Ed.D./Ph.D. in one of the academic disciplines offered in the College from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Teaching experience at the university level.
  • At least five (5) years of serving in a leadership role.
  • Possess K-12 experience.
  • Exhibit engagement in scholarly research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of past success in grant and contract research.
  • Document knowledge of the accreditation process (CAEP and SACSCOC).
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively with University administrators and various campus constituencies.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and outstanding analytical skills.
  • Commitment to engage a wide variety of communities and support a welcoming environment.
Preferred:
  • Specialize in a Curriculum and Instruction related degree field.
  • Earned license/certificate in teaching K-12.
