Position Description:
The High School Dean is responsible for fostering a positive and safe school environment that promotes student well-being, academic success, and responsible citizenship. This role focuses on building strong relationships with students, implementing fair and consistent disciplinary practices, providing supervision to ensure a supportive and orderly school culture, and supporting teachers in managing student behavior and creating positive classroom environments. The Dean must possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in both English and either Spanish or Arabic.

The Dean must possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in both English and either Spanish or Arabic.
Essential Functions:
Student Relations and Discipline
- Build positive and supportive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds, serving as a mentor and advocate.
- Implement and enforce the school's code of conduct, ensuring fair and consistent application of disciplinary procedures.
- Investigate and resolve student disciplinary issues, utilizing restorative justice practices whenever appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student disciplinary actions.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and staff regarding disciplinary matters, providing support and guidance.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to students in need.
Teacher Support and Collaboration
- Provide support and resources to teachers in managing student behavior in the classroom.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized behavior management plans for students.
- Offer guidance and training to teachers on effective classroom management strategies and restorative justice practices.
- Serve as a resource for teachers facing challenging student behavior issues.
Supervision and School Culture
- Supervise students in various school settings, including hallways, cafeteria, and extracurricular activities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and other staff to address student behavior issues and promote a positive school climate.
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives to improve student behavior and promote a culture of respect and responsibility.
- Participate in school safety planning and emergency response procedures.
Communication and Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between the school, parents/guardians, and community agencies.
- Facilitate parent-teacher conferences and other meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with school counselors and social workers to provide support services to students and families.
- Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish or Arabic, both verbally and in writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching.
- Experience in student discipline, behavior management, or counseling preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong knowledge of disciplinary practices, restorative justice, and student behavior management techniques.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Valid state-issued administrative license/certification required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and resolve disputes effectively.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in using technology for communication, record-keeping, and data analysis.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish or Arabic (spoken) preferred.
- Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and legal requirements related to student discipline.
- Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and techniques for supporting teachers.
