Position Description:
Expert in building electrification, decarbonization, energy retrofit, and energy transition solutions and exterior building envelope design complimentary with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) solutions. Coach and guide clients, project teams, and stakeholders for repurposing existing assets, strategic portfolio planning to Net Zero Carbon (NZC), and supporting strategic new construction projects.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
Serve as main point of contact, subject matter expert (SME), and advisor to clients and project stakeholders for matters related to project electrification, other decarbonization solutions, and interrelated sustainability strategies.
Consult with Turner Engineering Group (TEG) subject matter experts, Estimating, Procurement, and Operations teams locally for applicable discipline expertise.
Provide technical guidance and integration across Turner multidisciplinary offerings with regards to electrification, decarbonization, and other emerging technologies to assess overall solutions to project challenges and help clients achieve decarbonization goals.
Develop specialized solutions and anticipate building challenges, risks, and opportunities, respectfully challenging design partners to make lasting, forward thinking, sustainable design decisions that optimize a building's design life.
Advise teams for logical sequencing of decarbonization project activities to achieve schedule and cost objectives.
Collaborate with project team to oversee subcontract management.
Manage Decarbonization Services team, resources, and workforce planning for active and future projects, including determining budget, resources (internal/external), and workload for staffing and project reporting.
On decarbonization and electrification projects, partner with Turner Procurement/Engineering teams for subcontractor qualification and selection, prioritize long lead items, review cost benefit analysis for alternative equipment selections, and support alignment with owners' decarbonization technical/performance requirements.
Guide teams to achieve high quality services and deliverables that meet owner defined technical and performance standards.
Perform technical reviews of projects related to energy supply and building energy systems, examine design details and provide alternative, sustainable, long-term recommendations to project specifications and design drawings.
Propose alternative solutions to project for design optimization, challenges, and constructability improvements.
Collaborate with Design Partners to understand design intent when proposing Net Zero Carbon (NZC) and energy transition solutions.
Oversee commissioning process and collaborate with Commissioning Agent to communicate impact of outcomes on projects including design reviews, startup plan, commissioning schedule, functional testing, and close-out logs.
Network with owners, designers, and other consultants in Sustainability/Decarbonization industry to identify opportunities associated with efforts to construct new work.
Participate in Business Development (BD) activities including interviews, generating decarbonization content and create marketing materials (e.g., one-pagers, case studies, other collateral).
Develop deep understanding of legislative and regulatory landscape on building performance standards, clean energy transition and climate policy that impact both Turner and customers.
Collaborate with utilities, agencies and other regulatory stakeholders to ensure current understanding and applicable use of energy solutions, risks and opportunities.
Expand and maintain knowledge of innovative building technologies with regard to energy efficiency and emerging technologies. Collaborate with internal teams as necessary when implementing new energy solutions.
Develop and maintain knowledge of decarbonization funding incentives and opportunities that benefit both Turner and customers (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act, 179D, utility company, state incentives).
Develop and implement Decarbonization toolkit of solutions replicable across sectors and regions.
Provide coaching and technical training for Turner colleagues and SMEs in similar disciplines with focus on expanding Decarbonization principles, innovative and new technologies supporting Electrification, national and local legislation, and green building program requirements.
Collaborate with Trade subcontractors to generate toolkits, demystify Electrification solutions, and work with internal Cost team to develop reliable proformas for repeatable "go-to" solutions.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of industry trends for innovative building technologies for energy efficiency and emerging technologies. Attend and represent company at industry conferences and promote company as thought-leader for decarbonization and energy efficiency.
May manage direct reports and participate in hiring process, onboard new hires, deliver timely performance feedback to staff and contribute to performance appraisals during annual performance cycle, utilizing talent management systems.

  • Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree from accredited degree program in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and minimum of 8 years of experience working directly in building design and construction, with specific experience in high performance buildings, decarbonization related, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
    Minimum of 3 years of experience as Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Project Manager, including experience with full project lifecycle, required
    Professional Engineer credentials required (exceptions may be taken for individuals with technical engineering design capabilities learned through experience)
    Able to engage in collaborative professional and technical dialogue with stakeholders ability to tailor communications for non-technical audiences
    Professional verbal communication and presentation delivery skills
    Enjoy working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment
    Experience as owner's representative or working on owner's side, preferred
    Experience in design and construction for low energy/net zero buildings, ideally within Retrofit market
    Knowledgeable of or experience with sustainability consulting for design and construction projects, (e.g., LEED, Living Future, Passive House, Adaptation, Resilience, and Circularity) a plus
    Passion for Net Zero Carbon (NZC) buildings and total economy carbon-free electrification, desired
    Knowledge of commercial construction and disciplines with basic execution of end-to-end project, preferred
    Cross-functional knowledge of key Engineering disciplines (e.g., Architectural, Facades, Structural, MEP/ HVAC ) and relevant trades
    Able to generate critical thinking on technical subjects and write technical content
    Ability to develop specialized solutions and anticipate challenges, risks, and opportunities
    Skilled user of annual energy and thermal modeling software, a plus
    Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications, and adaptable to learn and acquire specific engineering technology skills
    Travel as necessary

    The salary range for this position in NYC is estimated to be 122,020.00 - 189,085.00 annualized.
