Description:
The Staff Dentist's primary job function is to work as part of a team to provide high quality, efficient and service oriented patient care while demonstrating the health center's core values. Under the direction of the Dental Director, the Staff Dentist is responsible for providing general dentistry services to health center patients. The Staff Dentist performs oral examinations, cleanings, extractions, fillings, root canals, and other dental services in the health center's scope of work in accordance with industry best practices. In coordination with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director, the Staff Dentist provides leadership and general program oversight in support of the department's clinical quality, patient experience, and access goals.

Essential Function
Clinical Quality
- Provide high quality, clinically appropriate general preventative and restorative dentistry to health center patients. Proficient with all phases of general dentistry.
- Accurately assess each patient's reason for visit/chief complaint and develops a treatment plan to appropriate address their oral health care needs.
- Coordinate service delivery and integrated care with other health center departments.
- Accurately document all services rendered in the electronic dental record.
- Ensure that all services are delivered in a manner that upholds the core values of the health center.
- Appropriately refer patients to outside specialists for needed procedures outside of Camino' scope of work.
- Actively participate in the health center's quality assurance and peer-review programs.
- Assist the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director in program development, implementation and evaluation as necessary.
- Ensure that clinical performance goals are achieved.
Patient Experience
- Provide patient care services in the spirit of the health center's core values. Convey empathic behavior and communication with patients and encourage all members of the care team to do so as well.
- Deliver services to the patients' satisfaction as measured by the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.
- Lead team in efforts to increase patient satisfaction survey completion rate.
- Collaborate with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director to investigate, respond and improve processes related to patient grievances received from payers, social media, and comment boxes/We Care emails.
- Collaborate with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director to improve workflows, cycle times, and the overall patient experience.
- Ensure that the department's patient experience goals are achieved.
Access/Utilization
- Provide primary dental care services in accordance with health center policies and board approved privileging.
- Practice in an efficient and cost effective manner; appropriately order labs and tests.
- Lead the care team in problem-solving to see late arriving patients and patients with urgent needs.
- Collaborate with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director to maximize patient appointment access.
- Ensure that the department's productivity goals are achieved.
Leadership and General Program Oversight
- In collaboration with the Dental Lead and Clinic Manager, provide general oversight of the program and dental support staff.
- Assume leadership role with the dental care team. Promote positive interactions within the team and engage members to achieve quality, patient experience and access goals.
- Coordinates with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director to handle normal day-to-day operational challenges and solve routine problems.
- Provide support to staff and/or takes the lead in handling patient grievances.
- Cooperate in investigations, patient grievances and requests from payers.
- Assist Dental Leads and support staff in the assessment, triage and planning of patient care.
- Collaborate with the Dental Lead, Clinic Manager, and Dental Director to develop support staff to their highest potential.
- Active participation in department and clinic-wide meetings/trainings.
- Attend in-services and conferences to continue professional growth and development.
- Assists the Dental Director with assessing the ability of the RDAs and Dental Assistants to fulfill the essential functions of their position and works with the director to develop and conduct trainings.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
- Experience / Training:
- License / Certification: Current valid California Dental license, and BLS certification.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
- Experience / Training: Bilingual (English/Spanish); three (3) year or more practice of general dentistry; prior experience working with children
- License / Certification: Optional DEA license
