Hours: Administrators and Supervisors are expected to devote the necessary time and effort required to properly complete their assigned responsibilities. It is understood that such time and effort may exceed the limits of normal working hours.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an earned Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Extensive experience in School leadership, district program leadership and proven ability to lead systems for improved results.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in district office.
  • Holds or is eligible for a New York School District Administrative Certification.
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge and understanding of budget and program development.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style characterized by strong communication skills, teamwork, integrity and trust.

Skills / Aptitudes / Abilities:
  • Ability to work cooperatively and in the primary leadership role with other leadership team members representing team departments and agencies both internal and external.
  • Ability to ensure alignment of national best practice models in support of District Plans and Key Strategies.
  • Ability to analyze data, to develop reports of such data, and to develop strategies for school improvement based upon research findings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational trends, research findings and conclusions.
  • Ability to develop, monitor and improve upon required and/or needed or anticipated plans.
  • Ability to organize, prepare and present information to the staff and public.
  • Ability to represent the district at local, regional and state functions and events.

Reporting To Position:

Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Director of School Improvement, Directors of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, Director of the Professional Learning Center, Teacher on Special Assignment for School Improvement and others as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Basic Function:

The Deputy Superintendent provides leadership for the school district Strategic Plan, instructional programs and services under the direction of the Superintendent to improve student achievement and graduation rates. The Deputy Superintendent directs and supervises the organization, planning, implementation, and monitoring of all aspects of the Strategic Plan. Additionally, the Deputy will work to ensure communication and efficiency between the instructional and operational departments of the district. The Deputy Superintendent is the second-in-command of all District functions after the Superintendent.

Essential Duties:

Within the limits of District policies, procedures, programs and budgets, the Deputy Superintendent of Schools is responsible for, and has commensurate authority to accomplish the duties set forth below:
  • Represents and exercises the authority of the Superintendent in directing and coordinating the implementation of state, district and school plans, policies, programs, and services.
  • Improvement of PreK-12 student achievement, closing equity gaps to meet district goals.
  • Collaborates with Cabinet and Extended Cabinet to plan the month-to-month activities of the District Leadership Team for the effective and efficient operation of all schools and departments.
  • Work with fellow cabinet members and staff to monitor implementation of the district's Strategic Plan, commitments areas, aligned progress measures, strategies and evidence of success.
  • Establishes systems for program evaluation teams to measure district initiatives providing annual and quarterly reports linked to the aligned progress measures.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent's Cabinet to ensure Professional Learning provided to all departments is aligned with the Greece Strategic Plan.
  • Provides leadership to ensure school budgets and resources are aligned with improvement initiatives and accountability measures.
  • Designee of the Superintendent and acts with the authority of the Superintendent in their absence and as otherwise assigned. The Deputy will serve as the primary designee of the Superintendent for emergency management communication.
  • Confers with attorneys concerning litigation and contract issues, and provides direction regarding legal and policy interpretations.
  • Serves as a member of multiple negotiations teams.
  • Serves on Board and District committees as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Conducts regular visitations to all schools and departments.
  • Assists and participates in the Superintendent Administrative Cabinet.
  • Visible and active in professional, family and community, and civic activities on behalf of the district. Represents the Superintendent at meetings and events as assigned.
