The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a driven leader to join our team as Deputy Warden of Operations. Under the direction of the Warden, the Deputy Warden of Operations monitors and oversees complex operations and serves as the acting Warden in his / her absence. The incumbent will serve as administrator of a multi-custody prison complex, which includes restrictive status housing. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and developing diverse groups of staff, progressive administrative experience in budget management, managing inmate populations, monitoring and directing unit operations, security, inmate programming, and physical plant operations. In collaboration with the Warden, the Deputy Warden of Operations is responsible for ensuring the prison applies modern correctional practices.
Job Duties:
- Directs and provides leadership and supervision of unit activities and subordinate staff
- Ensures the secure and safe operations of complex
- Performs security and physical plant inspections reviews and evaluates results
- Maintains operations budget and expenditure reports and advises the Warden of any deficiencies
- Oversees the development and operation of work, education, and recreational programs for the inmates
- Monitors and advises on complex and high-level matters throughout the institution
- Oversees inmate management to include grievances, appeals, classification, discipline, transfers, etc.
- Conducts investigations, trainings, security and physical plant inspections
- Evaluates units for compliance with ADCRR policies and standards
- Reviews and approves personnel actions including training, scheduling, performance evaluations, discipline, hiring and terminations
- Develops, proposes and implements policy or procedural changes regarding security and programs issues in the complex
- Conducts staff meetings
- Attends trainings and/or meetings as required
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- State and federal laws and regulations relating to Corrections, department policies and institutional directives, and personnel rules
- Arizona Criminal Code
- Criminal and civil court hearing procedures
- Correctional management including: security, personnel, maintenance, warehousing, food service and fiscal areas
- Human Resources
- Principles and practices of supervision

- Administrative, managerial, leadership and supervisory techniques

Ability to:
- Lift/carry 20 lbs.

Selective Preference(s):
- Previous experience as a Deputy Warden (Correctional Administrator II or III)
- Administrative or Business management experience within ADCRR and a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice/Corrections, Public Administration, Business Administration or Sociology/Social Science
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate drivers license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
