POSITION TITLE: Design and Architecture Teacher
REPORTS TO: Division Head and Instructional Leader

FLSA STATUS & CLASSIFICATION: 1.0 FTE, Exempt Faculty
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Design and Architecture Teacher is a full-time teacher and member of the Visual Arts Department, reporting to the Division Head and Instructional Leader. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment where value is placed on the skills and passions of the discipline within a larger context of Milken's mission, core values, and educational philosophy. Primary responsibilities include teaching 5 visual arts classes per year, teaching in both the middle and upper school divisions, serving as a Student Advisor, and collaborating on school-wide programming.

Start: M - F by 7:45 AM
End: M - Th 3:30 PM, F 2:30 PM

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $115,000.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and prepare engaging and rigorous middle and high school lessons across a variety of design arts disciplines including architecture, fabrication, digital arts, graphic design, and fashion.
- Emphasize student choice in lessons designed around the National Core Arts Standards, Studio Habits of Mind, and Milken's Core Values.
- Create a safe and welcoming learning environment.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and critical thinking.
- Provide constructive feedback on student work, emphasizing skill development and artistic growth.
- Collaborate with the Visual Arts Department to align curriculum with school-wide academic goals and values.
- Engage with students, parents, and colleagues to support the school's mission and build community.
- Engage with students outside of the classroom through office hours, extracurricular activities, clubs, and school-wide programming.
- Pursue ongoing professional development.
- Maintain clear and ongoing professional communication with parents and students.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Design, Art Education, Architecture, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Teaching experience at the middle and high school levels or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong knowledge of design principles.
- Proficiency in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) required.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Rhino preferred.
- Understanding and experience with laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC, g-coding, and model making skills preferred.
