Summary:

The Design Manager is responsible for supporting the sales effort, driving client meetings and interface, providing space planning and furniture applications services, determining and implementing systems requirements, producing CAP specifications, installation drawings, and managing personnel and projects within a defined design team. They are also responsible for working closely with the Herman Miller team both locally and corporately on product application and development for their office market.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Meet all responsibilities, expectations, and requirements as outlined in Interior Designer Job description
  • Design and specify all MillerKnoll product lines
  • Attend client meetings, engage in a high level of client interaction with the ability to drive the meeting and the design solution
  • Display effective presentation skills, space planning, programming, and time management skills
  • Willing to share ideas, display a positive attitude, and lead by example
  • Assist sales with presentations and the selling effort
  • Willingness to learn and implement new product initiatives
  • Work with the MillerKnoll team on product application and development to fit the needs in the market.
  • Develop quotes for reconfigurations
  • Assist in mentoring other designers to work through conflicts and solve problems
  • Lead by example and participate in partnered leadership of your team with Design and Sales Management
  • Take ownership for team projects and maintain team project files/documents per design and company standards
  • Demonstrate commitment to growth and development of the team
  • Take responsibility for error free work for self and team
  • Ensure communication expectations are met between departments and clients
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Articulate and qualify design department process issues to Design Management

Design Skills
  • Meet design skills as outlined in Design Lead job description
  • Ability to design and implement extremely complex projects consisting of new and reconfiguration designs - including multiple phased complex projects
  • Ability to manage and organize a complex project and take proactive steps
  • Capable of working independently, prioritizing workload, determining and adhering to project timeframes
  • Ability to perform self-checks and double check


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Degree in Interior Design or related field from a CIDA accredited school
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the Design industry (contract furniture preferred)
  • Experience managing and leading a team of interior designers
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD software, MS Office, and CET and ability to learn new softwares quickly
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
  • Effective organization skills with a critical eye for details
  • Ability to work independently and be a contributing team player
  • Initiative to provide guidance to advance skills on product, design process, and technology
  • Handle process issues and propose solutions to Design VP and upper Management
  • Ability to seek information, resolve problems, and share insight with a larger team
  • Proven track record of problem solving skills and informed decision making: ability to listen, ask questions, and respond appropriately
  • Proven track record of critical thinking, strategic mindset, and ability to employ big picture assessment
  • Professionalism in manner, attire, and all forms of communication
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide range of people within and outside of COR:
  • Must be able to read, write, interpret and communicate fluently in English
  • Writing skills must be sufficient to compose and edit a variety of documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation with the ability to pay close attention to detail and proofread work carefully
  • Good organizational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills:
  • Ability to work accurately to meet deadlines by adapting to changes in work environment, work assignments, and/or changes in priorities in a flexible way by working from your own initiative and/or following direction, policies, or procedures
  • Use analytical and decision-making skills to offer options and resolve problems in a variety of contexts
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team ensuring efficiency of projects from start to finish


Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers


Work Environment:
  • Work performed in fast-paced office environment daily with visits to various sites including warehouse, construction sites, client sites and offices
  • Occasional travel between COR offices
  • Environment subject to schedule and priority changes without advance notice
