Position Summary:
This person in this position will be the subject matter expect for 3D modeling and design work for the company. In conjunction with engineering, this position will set design standards for our packages. In addition to being an individual contributor as a working designer, this position will also train designers, set design project schedules, check drawings and complete projects that will support cost reduction and higher quality designs for internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop department standards and communicate them to the design team
Ownership of checking the design work of others and providing feedback on quality and technical viability
Act as technical advisor and trainer to other designers
Mange any deficiencies or areas of improvement of team members
Manage and maintain SolidWorks library and associated features of SolidWorks & EPDM for optimal functionality
Use SolidWorks design software to create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings - expected to perform design work in overflow capacity depending on group workload
Design of piping systems, structural supports, skids, pressure vessels
Support Project Engineers, fabrication, weld and sales department
Ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously
Understand and follow safety procedures for a fabrication environment
Required to take regular shop visits to observe fabrication of jobs on the floor and translate any issues into additional standards and procedures to aide current and future projects
Adhere to scheduling requirements as determined by the project engineer and signed off by design
Advise the company in potential software & hardware improvements to further benefit the design group
Maintain metrics related to the quality of design deliverables
Complete special projects as defined by the Vice President and/or Chief Engineer
Actively participate in customer facing meetings (kick off meetings, design reviews, site visits)

Experience, Education and Qualifications:
1. Minimum 10-15 years of experience specifically using SolidWorks in a fabrication/packaging environment.
2. Minimum 5-7 years of compressor packaging experience.
3. Degree in Engineering or design, or Extensive demonstrated experience in design engineering field.
4. Experience using a PDM system such as SolidWorks EPDM for document control a plus.
5. Strong Understanding of engineering and fabrication process desired.
6. Knowledge of structural steel skid design and use of weldments.
7. Knowledge of piping systems and designing using SolidWorks Routing.
8. Familiar with ASME vessel and piping design and components.
9. Understand how to read P&ID drawings and create a functional model.
10. Strong layout and drafting skills a must. Excellent attention to detail a must.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and hours will vary (40 hours or greater)
Work Environment:
This job operates in a variety of settings to include but not limited to an office setting, warehouse, and production facility, outdoors on a job site in hot, cold, or inclement weather. A designer's typical workday is 90% at the workstation.
