THE POSITION
Come Partner with the District Attorney's Office as a District Attorney Domestic Violence Investigator with the
Washington County Sheriff's Office!
Washington County Sheriff's Office has 2 openings for the Detective - Investigator position. One position is Full Time Regular, and the other position is Limited Duration, with a projected 3-year assignment with the possibility of an extension to a regular position at end of the 3-year assignment. The Limited Duration position receives all of the same benefits as the Full Time Regular position.
The Position
The District Attorney's (DA) Office prosecutes crimes committed in Washington County and utilizes an investigator to coordinate with deputy district attorneys, advocates, and other law enforcement officers, to complete thorough follow up investigations, write necessary search warrants, implement strategies to enforcing victim no contact orders, and assist to uphold the rights of victims.
The DA Investigator is a member of the Domestic Violence Unit and will perform the following job duties to enhance law enforcement and prosecution responses in domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking cases; Investigate criminal cases, analyze police reports and evidence, and assist the Deputy District Attorneys in preparing cases for grand jury and trial. Employees are responsible for case development and completion. Work is reviewed for conformance to law and policy. This position receives supervision from both a District Attorney liaison and a Sherriff's Office enforcement officer of higher grade and/or assigned management staff. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
- Working with prosecutors and outside law enforcement agencies to further investigate current and historical reports of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault to improve the quality of criminal cases and protect victims of domestic violence.
- Obtaining, reviewing, and organizing digital evidence from body worn cameras, cells phones, surveillance videos and computers.
- Assisting deputy district attorneys by locating and interviewing victims and witnesses in domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault crimes.
- Seeking and participating in regular case-relevant training to ensure best practices, to include trauma informed interviews and investigations, strangulation, stalking, and sexual assault. Keep updated on current case-specific statutes and case law.
- Being familiar with the role of the Family Justice Center (FJC), and all victim resources in Washington County. Coordinate with both community based and district attorney advocates as part of any investigation.

- Three (3) years of experience as a certified level law enforcement officer.

Additional Pay & Benefits
- Merit Increases - salary step increases granted upon satisfactory performance and completion of 26 qualified pay periods.
- Bilingual Pay - $75 per pay period which is paid out every two weeks.
- Incentive Pay - 2 to 8% for a combination of certification levels, training, college education and years of service.
- Premium Pay for various special assignments (Field Training Officer, Tactical Negotiations Team - SWAT, Motorcycle Officer, Corrections Emergency Response Team, and K-9.
- Overtime and/or compensatory time allowances for overtime, callback and court appearance.
- Uniform including initial tailoring, duty gear, and firearm.
- Clothing allowance - $75 per month, if assigned to plain clothes duty full-time.
- Footwear allowance - $150 per year.
