Position Summary
The Town of Breckenridge Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Detective. Detectives perform a wide variety of complex police work involved in the operation of the Town Police Department. They conduct initial and follow-up investigations of crimes as assigned. Detectives assist the District Attorney's Office in case preparation and prosecution and work in cooperation with various police and social service agencies. Case assignments may include the investigation of crimes against persons as well as crimes against property. Detectives may occasionally be required to work weekends, non-regularly assigned work shifts, or may be called into work by the Assistant Chief of Police or a Supervisor. The incumbent must be able to handle all officer-assigned functions.
In addition to the requirements of Police Officer, Detectives must possess high initiative and resourcefulness in the investigation of criminal matters. Possess extensive knowledge of criminal law and procedures. Possess considerable knowledge of methods and practices of criminal investigation. Possess extensive knowledge of department rules and regulations, federal and state law, and town ordinances. Possess the ability to obtain information through observation, interview and interrogation.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 60 semester hours from a state accredited college or university required.
- For internal candidates, a minimum of two (2) years of certified sworn patrol experience required.
- For external candidates, a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Detective required, having been assigned to a Detective Bureau, Investigations Bureau, or Major Crimes task force where duties are parallel to those listed under "Essential Job Duties / Functions" on the position description linked above.
- Must be Colorado POST certified, or eligible for Colorado POST certification to include firearms training, driver training, and arrest and control techniques.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License at time of appointment.
