The position at a glance

CIB ITP Digital Factories provides platforms to build digital services around DevOps, Environment management and AI. These services include providing DevOps pipeline toolsets, Environment Management services and data protection services. Activities include the support and project deliveries of the platforms as well as on-boarding new customers.

In detail

The DevOps Production Support Specialist will be part of a multi-disciplined team defining and building solutions to automate day to day processes with a view of providing more efficient platforms for users.

The candidate must help drive improvements to processes and help design automated enhancements with a view of continual improvement. The role is centered on an agile DevOps mind-set and requires a wide range of technical skills:
  • Have appreciation of production readiness and work with teams to understand user requirements.
  • Provide L1/L2 support on the DevOps platform for users globally.
  • Make sure the production DevOps platform is up and running properly 24/7
  • Define strategies on monitoring and capacity management.
  • Work to a set of prioritized tasks ensuring regular updates ensuring the target solution remains the key focus.
  • Understand phased delivery to ensure work is completed to a defined specification and schedule.
  • Rollout new releases and patches to the platform
  • Help identify efficiencies in processes and contribute to their automation.
  • Thoroughly test automated processes ensuring they are robust and meet requirements.
  • Provide feedback and propose solutions to management on performance, capacity and design issues.
  • Document designs and architectures and distribute minutes and meeting actions.

The candidate will also work with other teams to respond to incidents and resolve issues promptly, often under pressure, to restore normal services to the users.

Candidates must possess the aptitude and desire to learn new technologies and contribute ideas to technologies researched that may be of benefit to the department.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a production support or similar role. He/she must be experienced in providing multi-disciplined technical support as part of a team and have practical knowledge of performance and capacity management from an application, database, and network perspective as well as strong aptitude for automation. They must have a strong DevOps mind-set and be prepared to work across both dev and production teams with a view of automation and self-service platforms.

Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of the English is required.

Role Specific Technical Skills

Production experience across the following:
  • Experience in Artifactory, Bitbucket, Confluence, Fortify, Jira, Nexus IQ, SonarQube, Team City as Administrator, setup environment from scratch, configuration, maintenance, upgrade but also End User side to troubleshoot user incident and help them to onboard on the different platform.
  • System administration In-depth knowledge and demonstrable hands on experience in Linux/Unix and good knowledge on Windows systems.
  • Good general understanding of global infrastructure, firewalls, network protocols, certificates management, networking and considerations in these areas.
  • Networks: Good understanding of network principals and practical knowledge of load balancing technologies.
  • Monitoring Experience in managing monitoring tools (such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Dynatrace) and performance profiling.
  • Automation Experience of automated test and release cycles and server automation tools such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Jenkins, Artifactory, bitbucket, Git and integration with security vaults.
  • Experience in migrations from legacy platforms to new solutions ensuring technology evolution is maintained.
  • Knowledge of programming and scripting methodologies and demonstrable proficiency in writing code in one or more of the following languages: Python, Perl, Shell Scripting (Bash).
  • Understanding of user and server authentication enabling end to end automated release cycles whilst ensuring security is a primary consideration.
  • Understand of cloud-based platforms and solutions and delivery of PAAS solutions.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow, Incident, request, change and problem ticket management.

Desirable IT Skills
  • Operating System Linux Certification or Deep Knowledge in Linux Infrastructure like Red Hat, Ubuntu
  • Containers exposure to Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Scripting strong skills in Ansible, desirable skills in Python.
  • Security - Knowledge of and API interaction with CyberArk or Vault.
  • Databases exposure to or skills in SQL Server, Oracle and noSQL DBs.
  • Understanding of application lifecycle and Agile methodology.
  • Good tasks management, prioritization, risk management.
  • Appreciation of production processes, including change and release management, incident, and problem management.
  • ITIL4 Foundation
