Job Summary:
The Director of Project Implementation will manage Tax administration contract implementation projects from kick-off, through execution, ensuring quality throughout the process, supporting new business implementation, as well as internal business operations projects. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages life cycle of a project, including project scoping, planning, and requirements definition to issues resolution, testing, training and implementation, while maintaining the use of project methodology
- Serves as a key member of the team during new and current client meetings regarding our tax administration services; sells Avenu's current (and future) services/solutions as well as some third-party solutions to both elected and appointed state & local government officials
- Implement projects according to contract deliverables for those assigned to
- Coordinate development of process improvements to computerized systems
- Coordinate development and system implementation with IT resources
- Implement new products and services
- Coordinate development of process improvements to computerized systems
- Develop cross-functional teams; cultivate relationships with IT and other key divisions and leaders to successfully achieve projects
- Maintain In-depth knowledge of local, state and federal tax laws and ability to interpret and implement proper operational practices
- Represents Avenu at professional organizations and company sponsored exhibit/trade shows as deemed strategic
- Communicate regularly with senior management of Avenu on department activity
- Manage the day-to-day operations, workflow, and personnel of the department
- Assist with recruitment, hiring and training of staff
- Responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of managers, regular and contract employees within the Department
- Coordinate team meetings and continuing professional education as needed
- Develop and manage department productivity and performance goals and statistics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required or 10+ years of related experience
- Two or more years of state and/or local tax experience preferred
- 5+ years of proven project management experience
- Project Management certification is preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Must attend conferences or other training sessions to retain certification as required
- Advanced knowledge of state and local tax laws and procedures required
- Must be open to being cross-trained on state and local tax laws of other states
- Advanced understanding of accounting principles and transactions with the ability to analyze tax sensitive general ledger accounts
- Attention to detail
- Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear & concise manner, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while being a team player who interacts and works well with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Must possess thorough knowledge of Alabama Taxpayer Bill of Rights, Alabama Business Tax requirements
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical aptitude.
- Conceptual thinking skills and ability to identify technical solutions to achieve process automations and improve productivity.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Must demonstrate excellent problem identification and resolution skills.
- Ability to remain focused during reprioritization.
- Good judgment during stressful situations, especially when interacting with clients, staff and other employees.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, Visio.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the day
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machine
- This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office
- The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone
Travel
- Travel for this position is intermittent but must be able to travel within a short-notice timeframe, sometimes in as little as 1 to 2 days' notice.
- Usual travel amount is between 5 and 10% of the time.
