Job Summary

The Director of Counseling and Advising provides execution and support for critical programs through University MNPS that support MNPS students to have seamless transitions to employment, education, or enlistment when they graduate from secondary education. This role will oversee the counseling team to support the execution of the College and Career mission and vision. A successful candidate will have strong content knowledge in counseling, postsecondary readiness, improving graduation rates, and evidence-based practices to improve postsecondary outcomes for students, especially those from historically marginalized backgrounds as well as an excellent track record of leading

What you will do
  • Provide structural and systems leadership to counselors and advisors in order to advance MNPS's vision for "University MNPS"-that from the time a child is born in Davidson County, there is a pathway for them through MNPS schools to high-wage, high-demand postsecondary education and/or employment opportunities that allow them to live lives of their choosing.
  • Serve as representative for the support hub Counseling and Advising team for projects to improve college advising, including the coordination and amplification of school-based, district-based, and community-based supports.
  • Oversee the work of support hub counseling team members to provide data-driven support and systems to our school based counselors, College and Career coaches, and administrators
  • Support project management on work to expand districtwide access to early postsecondary opportunities (EPSOs), especially for low-income students and students of color. Manipulate and make meaning from data-including graduation data, workforce and labor market data, postsecondary outcomes, and student-level enrollment, course schedule and academic data to strengthen the impact and development school counselors
  • Serve on Strategy leadership team to ensure alignment across our work and team

  • Apply systems thinking to all work, understanding how systems of advantage impact postsecondary outcomes, especially for low-income students and students of color, and operate with a high degree of commitment to create equity in all systems.
  • Provide strategic leadership and collaboration with various support hub departments to maximize College and Career advising and support with our school based counselors and advisors
Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in advising, counseling, or workforce development Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • 1-3 years Work in leadership position strongly Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional ability to collaborate across departments and organizations.
  • Strong people management skills, especially in informal reporting structures across departments, and a readiness to be the "face of MNPS" to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to lead ambiguous, complex, and multi-system work, even in the face of shifting or evolving goals.
  • Set ambitious goals to drive work and operate with a high degree of independence.
  • Excellent ability to communicate data, especially data regarding graduation rates, postsecondary completion, or workforce and labor market data, to non-technical audiences up and down a reporting structure.
  • Strong ability to manage up to district leadership regarding critical decision points in postsecondary readiness work.
  • Exceptional manager of work, including 100% adherence to deadlines.
  • Strong systems thinking, and the ability to understand how multiple systems interact with each other to affect student postsecondary outcomes (healthcare, housing, transportation, etc.), and a readiness to advocate on behalf of all students, especially students from historically marginalized backgrounds, to improve outcomes in all systems.
Licenses and Certifications
  • TN Administrator License within 1 Year Required

Starting At: $123,617.87

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
