Academic Enterprise Communications is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the
Director, International Communications and Marketing. This position spearheads the creation of compelling
communication journeys, print materials, presentations and website and social media content tailored for
prospective undergraduate and graduate students from countries outside of the United States.

This position will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication strategies in established
student recruitment markets (such as China and India) as well as in emerging markets (such as Korea and
Taiwan) to drive enrollment and enhance ASU's global presence and reputation worldwide.

The ideal candidate is organized, solution-oriented, and passionate about higher education. They will have
direct career experience working on international marketing and student recruitment strategies, ideally in
international higher education. Collaborating closely with ASU Admission Services, the Director, International
Communications and Marketing will be asked to drive an innovative, and regionally nuanced engagement
strategy to deliver impactful communications that influence application to ASU and enrollment.

Preference will be given to individuals who have professional experience in China and Taiwan, as these markets
are of strategic importance. Candidates with this experience should reference their experience developing and
executing social media and website strategies in these particular markets. While not required, an ability to read
and write in Mandarin is desired skill.

Working Environment

The department plans for this position to be based in Tempe, Arizona, with a hybrid weekly work schedule
offered. If relocation to Tempe is not possible, the department will consider candidates who are living in the
United States.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting,keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (25%)
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (35%)
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Marketing/Business, or a related field AND four (4) years of directly related experience in higher education digital lead generation, email campaign, and project management experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience living and working internationally, with international students or in higher education organizations. Specific experience in China, other southeast Asian countries, and/or India a plus.
  • Project software management experience with monitoring implementation plans and projects issues to help ensure completion of all project tasks in a timely manner.
  • Experience in creating communications and marketing strategies, reaching international audiences.
  • Experience in communicating including the ability to express ideas in a clear and logical manner.
  • Experience composing, editing, and proofreading written materials.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Experience in higher education recruitment practices and principles.
  • Experience or interest in building strategies for leveraging XR and other virtual tools in university recruitment.

Essential Duties

  • Develops communications strategy, tactics, and key messages, and defines audiences, for delivering a compelling message about earning a degree both in the U.S. and specifically at ASU.
  • Collaborates with leadership in Admissions, the International Students and Scholars Center, and others to drive a communications strategy that engages international students currently enrolled at ASU.
  • Plans, writes, schedules, tracks and analyzes communications using a range of mediums (email, print, video, web, video and social media).
  • Researches and implements optimal communication channels for specific international markets.
  • Ensures accuracy of content, consistency in messaging, and timeliness of delivery.
  • Collaborate with university leadership, faculty, and staff to identify compelling stories, research breakthroughs, and innovative programs that resonate with international stakeholders.
  • Leads outbound email marketing campaigns including development, execution and analysis, using established internal processes and JIRA. Adherence to established guidelines and procedures isimportant.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of communications by looking at open and click rates and overall effectiveness of calls to action, making adjustments based on data.
  • Develops print materials, ensuring deadlines are met, including, but not limited to, viewbooks, brochures, flyers, folders, maps and direct mail pieces.
  • Provides excellent, responsive customer service to stakeholders and constituents, is collaborative and transparent with all work, building strong working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
  • Actively participates in the development of new ideas.
  • Records and monitors the effectiveness of enrollment communication strategies, processes and action items.
  • Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals.
  • Identifies, develops and maintains working relationships with University and community agencies for support as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains direct contact with outside organizations and university departments associated with scheduled functions/programs.
