SUMMARY

A brief description of the primary purpose of this job.

This position will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and will work and correspond with multiple business partners. The Director of Accounting is responsible for the company's financial policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with internal and external auditors, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and preparation of financial reports. This role ensures proper compliance with US GAAP and J-SOX reporting requirements and the effective interpretation and implementation of technical accounting policies and guidance. This role will also oversee the technical accounting areas such as leases, MIP/LTIP compensation, software development capitalization, product liability and workers' compensation and will work closely with other stakeholders, functions within the enterprise and third-party specialists to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial numbers in these various areas. Moreover, this role is also responsible for coordinating the Company's risk management, managing the accounting function, and working closely with Hoshizaki Japan Treasury in the reporting, monitoring and managing risk. This role is also responsible for interacting with the Hoshizaki Japan's finance function including involvement in reviewing and analyzing the consolidated financial results and position of the Company as well as implementing corrections or improvements when required. The role will also coordinate with the external auditors. Special projects will be supported as required. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Ensures that company financial records under their responsibility are maintained in compliance with company policies, US GAAP and J-SOX reporting. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure compliance.
  • Implement technical accounting guidance and as well as ensure that the Company's accounting positions/processes are appropriate, well thought out, and in compliance with the established accounting framework.
  • Implement and support process improvement initiatives designed to enhance transparency, remove manual effort and standardize performance.
  • Oversee treasury functions, including debt management, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Direct oversight of technical accounting areas that are highly complex and/or subjective.
  • Provide financial insights and support to key business decisions, including investments, acquisitions, and new ventures


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary/major job responsibilities that will be performed by this job.
  • Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company activity including monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reporting. Owns and directs the accounting processes.
  • Accountable for balance sheet integrity and cross-functionally optimizing working capital management
  • Ensure financial resources are effectively and efficiently managed, maintain liquidity, minimize financial risk, and optimize capital usage.
  • Manages and ensures the success of all internal and external audits and related improvements to the company's internal control environment, directly within the manufacturing facilities and indirectly by supporting other business units/regions.
  • Assures that adequate written policies, procedures, work instructions and controls are maintained for accounting activities under the direction of the role.
  • Drives continuous improvement activities to increase the effectiveness of financial processes and the information systems supporting these processes.
  • Serves as a change agent, proactively identifying opportunities and implementing process efficiencies to improve both functional and overall business operations and results.
  • Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities noted above. Responsible for continued development of these associates.
  • Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records.
  • Ensures that the ERP operates as required. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met.
  • Leads and/or prepares any other special projects and analyses required.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The minimum education and experience required to successfully perform the essential functions. Preferred requirements can also be included in this section.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business (or equivalent experience) required with strong knowledge of US GAAP, Treasury, Tax, Internal controls and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high performing teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions and multi-national teams.
  • Experience analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are mandatory.
  • Must have 10+ years of management experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have an outstanding attention to detail and process rigor while demonstrating a sense of urgency.
  • Problem-solving, change management and critical thinking skills.
  • Time Management - ability to prioritize workload and adherence to deadlines.
  • Experience communicating with company executives including Sales executives.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Skills, abilities, or special licenses needed to perform the job (software, professional certifications, drivers' license, languages, etc.)
  • ERP experience - (Microsoft Dynamics, D365)
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate sound judgment in decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal positively with conflict.
  • Efficient and effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Technical proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to travel 20%

PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS

Non-Manufacturing:
  • Typically work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift boxes/materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Requires telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other employees and customers
  • Ability to read, write, listen, and communicate effectively
