Oregon Mutual Insurance is looking for a Director of Actuarial. The Actuarial Director is responsible for managing a team performing actuarial work, predictive modeling, and statistical reporting, supporting all lines of business at Oregon Mutual. Responsibilities include managing the rate review process, working with other departments to develop business intelligence reports and curated datasets to aid in decision making, and enhancing the use of predictive modeling throughout the organization. Other functions include producing financial projections, aiding in capital modeling, reviewing reinsurance agreements, assuring accurate statistics are maintained for internal use and for required reporting to statistical agents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide instruction and guidance to members of the actuarial department.
- Partner with senior managers and other groups on pricing, rates and related matters, including the development and use of pricing models/tools, business planning and other financial reviews.
- Design validated mathematical and statistical models used for pricing different risks, as well as creating and supporting models to be used throughout the organization.
- Apply actuarial concepts and techniques in the analysis of appropriate rate levels and new rating plans including experience and retrospective rating.
- Identify drivers of insurance costs and estimate the expected losses for classes of risks using advanced statistical techniques
- Reconcile data shown on actuarial reports to the Company's accounting records and main statistical databases.
- Analyze historical data and other material information to estimate future product costs.
- Review coverage and rating procedure changes proposed by Underwriting and Product Development staff and estimate the impact on product costs.
- Review rate filings including required supporting data as required by state regulators.
- Analyze relevant internal data and relevant data available from industry statistical organizations such as ISO, WSRB, ISRB, etc.
- Analyze relevant external data available from trade organizations, government agencies, and reinsurers.
- Arrange meetings to gain consensus as to the needs, uses and the data and calculations of reports.
- Assist programmers in reconciling report information to Company accounting records, main statistical databases, or other sources if appropriate.
- Maintain projection models developed internally, by Investment Manager or Reinsurance Broker.
- Project future loss ratios and other financial variables for future years.
- Understand the fundamentals of accounting and financial statements to review projections for reasonableness.
- Identify and implement process improvement initiative to increase efficiency and accuracy of the actuarial team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in technical field or related field and a minimum of 7 years experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
- Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society, FCAS designation preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to receive guidance and instruction and then apply information and conduct research with little supervision.
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven ability to produce accurate work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Advanced abilities in using large datasets using SQL, SAS, R, Python, Alteryx or other
- Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Valid State Driver's License and acceptable driving record may be required.
