Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Battery Management Systems to lead the development of embedded systems and software for aviation battery technologies. This leadership role is pivotal in designing, testing, and deploying critical battery management systems (BMS) while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and ensure FAA certification compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, and optimization of software and embedded hardware engineering projects for BMS systems.
Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to develop software requirements and BMS architecture.
Oversee the generation and validation of software code for safety-critical systems.
Manage specialty engineering work scopes, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.
Provide technical advisement to program leads and mentoring to junior team members.
Drive compliance with FAA certification standards, including DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-330.
Develop and implement innovative solutions to optimize development processes and project delivery.
Support strategic decision-making by translating business needs into actionable technical specifications.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 10+ years of progressive engineering experience or Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience.
5+ years of safety-critical software development experience.
5+ years of experience in leading engineering teams to achieve organizational goals.
Proficiency in the implementation of DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-330.
Demonstrated technical expertise in software unit testing, integration testing, and introspection.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to mentor and develop technical talent.
Preferred:
Expertise in C/C++ for real-time, safety-critical embedded systems.
Deep knowledge of ARM Cortex-M architecture and its integration into firmware designs.
Familiarity with bus protocols like CAN, ARINC429, and Ethernet.
Experience in the certification of battery management systems or fault-tolerant embedded systems.
Proficiency with development tools such as GIT, JIRA, and Linux-based environments.
