POSITION SUMMARY

Business Assessment (BA) is an exciting, highly collaborative, and dynamic team of professionals responsible for generating the investment cases for key pipeline and business development decisions. It is a Center of Excellence within Pfizer's Commercial Strategy & Innovation (CSI) organization. CSI is the single accountable Commercial voice responsible for pipeline/program strategy and investment cases.

The BA Director for Oncology is responsible for developing commercial assessments and forecasts to support investment case decisions. The BA team partners with Commercial leadership and Oncology Research and Development (ORD) and Worldwide Business Development (WWBD) to effectively champion internal pipeline and external opportunities.

As the BA Director for Oncology, you will also provide strategic input into trade off decisions that may be required between investment options, ensure consistency in assessment and forecasting approaches across external or internal investment options, and support the presentation of analysis and recommendations to executive governance.

You may cover other disease area opportunities, potential M&A evaluations, emerging technology platforms, other innovative projects as needed, given the team's flexible resourcing model.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop assessments of pipeline and business development opportunities, collaborating closely within CSI to ensure that investment opportunity analysis is rigorous and based on common and well-supported modeling techniques and assumptions
  • Gather input from key internal expert stakeholders on the potential clinical development plan or clinical profile and commercial evaluation (e.g., Research & Development, Medical Affairs, Global Access and Value, Global Marketing/Regional leaders, Global Commercial Analytics)
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative market research with external physicians and key opinion leaders both directly and through management of consulting resources while abiding by rigorous internal customer engagement protocols
  • Develop analytically supported recommendations to facilitate investment trade off decisions across Pfizer Oncology opportunities, as well as BD opportunities compared with internal pipeline investment
  • Determine the appropriate level of rigor and external insights/research required, depending on the timeline and decision to be made
  • Demonstrate the courage to recommend not moving forward with opportunities despite limited information at times
  • Work flexibly and comfortably on multiple projects in a matrixed team
  • Support additional CSI projects (e.g., knowledge management, best practice synchronization, professional development) or enterprise level initiatives and evaluations using analyst reports and other secondary data


Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree with at least 8 years' experience, in the biopharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Proficiency leading patient-based forecasting and understanding of financial valuations
  • Ability to work with complex information (e.g., epidemiology literature, analyst reports, secondary/claims data, primary research) and distill into an analytic framework that helps facilitate decision making
  • Strong presentation skills to executive level leadership; Interact with executive commercial and research leaders at all levels and engage them at appropriate times in the commercial assessment process


Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or life sciences advanced degree
  • Prior experience in oncology forecasting, life sciences consulting, financial services or other analytical profession
  • Experience in business development process, specifically in opportunity identification, commercial assessment, and deal structure
  • Provide objective recommendations for investment, factoring in strategies at a Category level and overall Pfizer growth strategy
  • Work effectively in a matrixed organization and lead with indirect authority; lead cross functional teams to deliver quick turnarounds often with limited information
  • Ability to think creatively and develop new solutions or approaches that will enable the teams to meet their new business goals
  • Synthesize new areas, technologies, and opportunities for executive level briefings
  • Understands trends in healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, competitor strategies, dynamics in the US and other major global markets, and drug development process
  • Understands market trends and strategies that could impact investment opportunities
  • Understands pricing and market access strategy across US & Ex-US markets

Work Location Assignment: Hybrid

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $169,700.00 to $282,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
