Job Summary

Manages, develops, trains, and mentors assigned staff working with students to identify and plan for career paths. Oversees the internship and cooperative education program on both campuses. Works in tandem with academic departments and academic advising centers to create a strategic pathway towards holistic advising. Works closely with the department leaders to create a seamless, orchestrated, and robust campus career program.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees operation of Career Advising and Planning, Internship and Co-op Programs for the University in two main offices, and five satellite offices
2. Manages day to day activities to ensure smooth functioning, and streamlined processes
3. Plans, directs and evaluates a comprehensive career advisement program in coordination with academic colleges, academic affairs, and academic advising
4. Collaborates with campus partners to develop and implement strategic outreach campaigns for exploratory students, and work with orientation and related units to offer career inventories and assessments
5. Serves on Strategic Advising Council under the direction of the Vice Provost
6. Serves as a liaison to Quality Enhancement Plan (internships and co-ops)
7. Ensures unit is in compliance with university and relevant policies and guidelines
8. Develops and implements policies and procedures aligned with the mission of the university that work seamlessly with other advising-related entities
9. Conducts ongoing assessments of unit and provide guidance in strategic planning

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Required Experience
Eight (8) years of experience in a related position with progressive levels of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
NACE Board-Certified Coach (BCC) credential

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Preferred Experience
Previous budget, personnel, and program management experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Able to represent the department at high level strategy meetings, with Deans, Department Chairs, and Provost as necessary
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of research informed best practices in career development, career advising, and internships and co-ops
Knowledge of institutional practices and policies regarding internships, co-ops, student work, federal work study, and other work types (visas, etc.)
Knowledge of and ability to enact the core values of the National Associate of Colleges and Employers (NACE)

SKILLS
Engaging presentation skills and ability to be responsive to faculty needs in academic colleges
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
