About the Position
The Director of Communications leads strategic communications to raise the district's visibility, advance its brand, and articulate clear messaging to internal and external audiences. This position is responsible for public relations, marketing, social media, multimedia platforms, and communication technology tools. The Director serves as a liaison between the district and the media, and is the district's spokesperson for handling emergencies, as well as sensitive and controversial issues. Additionally, this position fosters positive relationships with news media, community groups, and the public.
The Director provides leadership and vision to our family language access team. This position serves as the external voice of Edmonds School District by developing, coordinating, and disseminating information to the media and the public. Responsibilities include sharing stories and information about the district, students and school sites with local and county media outlets. Additionally, this position will develop and implement an annual media strategy utilizing multiple media platforms and will be responsible for writing content, responding to emerging emergency communication, and annually developing an internal and external communication plan.

2024-25 Director Salary Schedule : $187,684 to $191,513 per year, depending on education credits

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in media relations with an increasing level of responsibility
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of work experience in community information and/or political environment writing for diverse populations
- Advanced experience working with media and reporters
- Bi-lingual/multilingual
- National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Accreditation in Public Relations
- Master's degree in communications, public relations, or related field
- Experience working in a K-12 school district or public education system is preferred
