Position Duties
The Director of Development for Loyola College is a senior member of the Advancement team and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing and managing strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure of major/principal gifts for a comprehensive fund raising program for Loyola College. The Director works closely with the Dean of Loyola College, members of the university administration as well as faculty and advancement colleagues across Loyola University to help articulate fundraising priorities, translate academic plans into gift opportunities and development proposals, coordinate interactions with key prospects and donors. It is expected that approximately 70% of work time will be devoted to fundraising activities with the remaining 30% devoted to administrative duties. There is an annual expectation to raise between $1-2M in major/principal/planned gifts and conduct 100-125 visits.
Identify and evaluate giving potential of major and principal gift prospects through personal visits and engagement in the philanthropic priorities that advance and serve the School's mission. Effectively plan and execute major and planned gift strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward individual major donors - alumni, parents, friends - as appropriate. Conduct a minimum of 10-12 prospect visits per month to meet a goal of 120 visits per year. Execute a minimum of 10-15 major gift solicitations of at least $50-100K plus and multiple annual gift solicitations per year to advance the school's priorities.
Develop and establish a new fundraising program with Loyola Clinical Centers to create a culture of philanthropy. Create an "honor your care giver program" and "grateful patient"; program to establish patient and community donations. Facilitate community building/grateful patient events to raise awareness of the Clinical Centers. Establish healthcare/hospital participants to show partnerships. Assist in creating marketing materials for print and online messaging.
Prepare major gift proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and presentation materials for significant donors. Match programs and gift opportunities to the interests of potential donors consistent with established campaign goals for Loyola College and Loyola University Maryland. Advise donors on gift planning strategies to maximize institutional gift benefits and, when appropriate, work closely with the primary liaison for the Office of Gift Planning.
Develop excellent relations with the President, Dean of Loyola College, faculty leaders and department chairs in support of Loyola College priorities; provide training and education to academic leadership and faculty partners; engage the Dean, Associate Deans and faculty in prospect visits where appropriate, schedule on-site and off-site meetings with prospects. Integrate school/unit advisory boards as well as other committees and volunteers into the identification, cultivation, and solicitation process.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the programs, research areas, and funding priorities of all aspects of Loyola College along with a general knowledge about the university. Prepare and complete timely contact reports; ensure that all gifts are processed according to Loyola University Maryland policies and that donors are appropriately recognized and stewarded.
Attend and assist with Loyola University Maryland events, which often occur during evening hours and weekends.
