The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for a Director, Division of Hematology to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Hematology consists of approximately 20 hematologists encompassing several hospitals. The Division provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide variety of benign and malignant hematologic disorders. It is the primary hematology referral center for central and northern Alberta and Northwest Territories, with a catchment area of over 2 million people. There is a strong emphasis on undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research within the Division, and ample support is provided to clinical investigators, researchers and educators.

The Division Director will provide leadership and mentoring for junior staff and will work to promote education, research and quality improvement initiatives within the Division. The successful candidate will also be appointed as Hematology Section Chief and will be responsible for coordinating clinical hematology activities across the Edmonton Zone.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Hematology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) . The candidate will have a proven track record of accomplishment in education and/or research, as well as strong leadership skills.
