SUMMARY
The Director, Energy & Sustainability is responsible for the ongoing development and management of the Energy & Sustainability Line of Business within the client account. Accountabilities include business development, client relationship management, employee staffing and ongoing financial management of their assigned Energy & Sustainability consulting practice area. Additional responsibilities include the development, management and implementation of a portfolio-wide Sustainability & Energy Management Plan for the client portfolio. The candidate will work closely with Facility Managers, Maintenance Supervisors, Project Specialist, Finance, contractors, consultants, and client teams. The candidate will require technical expertise in the following areas:

SUMMARY

The candidate will require technical expertise in the following areas:
- Energy markets and utility rate structures.
- Energy analytics.
- Building operations.
- Building conservation and demand management.
- Conducting building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development.
- Ability to manage programs from concept inception to implementation and validation.
- Decarbonization, GHG protocol and Net Zero.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Relationship Management
- Acts as the primary client interface for the assigned account. Client representatives with whom this position typically interacts with are at the director and manager level.
- Develops and builds effective relationships with clients and ensures client satisfaction.
- Manages client expectations with respect to scope definition of energy & sustainability related services contained within the master services agreement.
- Conducts regular meetings with clients to understand and anticipate needs.
- Provides feedback to internal stakeholders on potential offerings for assigned account(s).
- Recommends and sells additional services based on understanding of clients' needs.
- Work with entire BGIS Canada Management Team to understand energy and sustainability client issues, challenges and opportunities and to facilitate, propose and deliver innovative solutions.
- Deliver on Client deliverables, strategies and execution plans to achieve various targets and metrics (energy, water, emissions, waste, etc.)
- Collaborate with other BGIS Canada Lines of Business to develop effective joint efforts or leverage other LOB resources and/or initiatives to promote Energy & Sustainability solutions for our clients.
- Manage Client Perception of E&S Services as reflected in Customer Satisfaction KPIs.
Service Delivery Management
- Develops and executes energy and sustainability strategies and program to support the client in achieving their goals. Includes influencing goals based on best practices.
- Be the clients SME for Energy and Sustainability.
- Develop and implement energy and sustainability programs, required business cases (ROI, NPV).
- Develop M&V plans and provide regular reporting on program performance.
- Deliver regular energy and sustainability reporting based on the services contained in the master services agreement. Including the support of Power BI dashboards and data accuracy.
- Project manages and collaborates with relevant stakeholders to deliver services and to ensure service level agreements and key performance indicators are achieved.
- Deliver annual energy and sustainability plans in conjunction with the capital plan to deliver on energy and sustainability targets.
- Conducts regular meetings with clients to solicit performance feedback and identify areas for improvement.
People Leadership
People leadership responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Leads a team of individual team members working in Energy & Sustainability services.
- Assigns, prioritizes and monitors work progress to ensure completion and adherence to timeliness, quality standards and all other related requirements.
- Reviews work for completeness and accuracy. Ensures quality adherence is maintained.
- Guides, coaches and trains direct reports.
- Provides input for performance review.
Business Development Activities
- Support the development of new Professional Services capabilities (offerings) aligned with targeted client segments to enhance business development success.
- Support corporate RFP responses and Client proposals to document and secure New Business as required.
- Internal and external quantification of financial and other benefits attributable to energy and sustainability services.
Team Operational Management
- Manage Staff productivity and Work quality through appropriate labour planning and work inspections on an ongoing basis.
- Manage Team morale and employee development through the BGIS Canada.
- Optimizer process and ESAT program.
- Manage Start Up and Close Out transition processes for new assignments.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- MINIMUM EDUCATION: University graduation or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses).
- JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: Seven to ten years.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable and at ease in a lead presentation role.
- Previous experience in energy management, energy or sustainability consulting.
- Understanding of the facility management business and financial role played by energy management.
- Experience in the programmatic execution of energy initiatives.
- Understanding of Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions accounting (experience with SBTi would be an asset).
- Strong skills in developing internal reporting systems, benchmarking and target setting.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems, HVAC Plant and its operation.
- Project management experience.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Professional Engineering designation or equivalent.
- LEED Accredited Professional designation or equivalent.
