Purpose of Job:
The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our community, and as may be directed by the VP or Director of Property and Facilities, to assure that our community is maintained in a safe, efficient, attractive and comfortable manner.

Administrative Functions:
Develops, implements and maintains an annual review of policies and procedures for the day-to-day operations of the department.
Provides input to policies that are community wide.
Keeps department appearance in presentable manner at all times.
Completes all appropriate reports and paperwork as required.
Ensures department is in regulatory compliance.
Ensure adherence to infection control policies.
Volunteers to serve on committees and/or participates when designated.
Human Resources:
Assures all department staff receives Tb testing as scheduled.
Provides effective staffing schedules and assignments for the department.
Assures that staff attends all mandatory in-services.
Conducts performance appraisals at 90 days for new staff and at least annually thereafter.
Hires, orients and trains staff to perform appropriate duties.
Effectively applies work rules to all staff and corrects behavior and actions when necessary.
Provides a departmental environment where all safety practices are maintained.
Follows new hire procedures to secure high quality staff, obtains references, completes paperwork and submits required documents as mandated by regulatory bodies.
Communications:
Maintains positive communications within the department.
Facilitates positive communications inter-departmentally.
Attends and actively participates in meetings.
Produces written communication that is clear and concise.
Maintain confidentiality of resident and White Horse Village business issues.
Budget:
Develops an accurate annual budget for department.
Monitors spending to ensure conformance with budget projections.
Orders supplies and maintains adequate inventory for proper operation of the department.
Allocates resources to implement departmental activities, as appropriate.
Orders and maintains all capital equipment.
Completes budget variance reports, as appropriate.
Education:
Attends seminars and in-services to maintain and increase professional skills.
Provides on-going learning opportunities for staff.
Ensures department is compliant with mandatory in-services.
Coaching and developing others is the demonstrated ability to improve the self-development of others by systematically providing clear objectives, specific performance feedback, effective positive coaching, and development opportunities and resources.
Department Specific:
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Housekeeping Services Department, its programs and activities.
Communicates clear directions and expectations and holds Team Members accountable for meeting goals and objectives.
Coordinates Housekeeping Services and activities with all departments.
Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, and studies for D.O.H. Nursing Division Inspections, D.O.H. Life Safety Division Inspections, including the Legionella Prevention Program.
Review the department's policies, procedures manual, job descriptions, etc., at least annually for revisions, and make recommendations to the VP and Director of Property and Facilities.
Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the Director of Property and Facilities adjustments in Housekeeping Services that assure the continued ability to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
Inspect storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control and perform inspections of the community and grounds to identify areas in specific need of Housekeeping Services.
Inspect linens and carpet to assure quality appearance.
Schedule and announce departmental meeting times, dates, places, etc.
Responsible for the recruitment and selection of Housekeeping Services personnel.
Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the Housekeeping Services Department's needs, and assign a sufficient number of Housekeeping Services personnel for each task identifier.
Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, cleaning schedules, etc., to expedite work.
Counsel/discipline housekeeping personnel as requested or as necessary.
Assist in standardizing the methods in which housekeeping tasks will be performed.
Make daily rounds to assure that Housekeeping Services personnel are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate housekeeping procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facility.
Assure that the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner for resident comfort and convenience by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained and operable to perform necessary duties and services.
Assure that a stock level of housekeeping supplies, disinfectants, equipment, linens, etc., is maintained to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
Review housekeeping and personnel complaints and grievances and make oral/written report to the Vice President and Director of Property and Facilities.
Make weekly inspections of all housekeeping functions to assure that quality control measures are continually maintained.
Miscellaneous:
Review and develop a plan of correction for housekeeping deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the VP and Director of Property and Facilities.
Assist the Infection Control Coordinator and/or Committee in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job related functions to ensure that housekeeping tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.
Serve on various committees of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Safety, etc.), and provide written/oral reports of Housekeeping Services and activities as required by the Committee's guidelines or direction.
Meet with Housekeeping Services personnel on a regularly scheduled basis, and solicit advice from inter-department supervisors concerning the operation of the Housekeeping Services Department; assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
Attend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be called.
Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate housekeeping services to assure that care and services can be performed without interruption.
Assume the responsibility for maintaining your professional competence through participation in programs of continuing education (i.e., housekeeping seminars, training programs, etc.)
Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
Assure that the resident's personal and property rights are followed by Housekeeping Services personnel at all times.

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of four years of supervisory experience. Four years of practical experience and knowledge of Environmental Services. Any equivalent combination of experience and training. Administrative, management and leadership skills. Superior customer service skills. Act as a professional role model, innovator and resources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
