Description of Position
Reporting to the Executive Director of Facilities Management, the Director of Facilities Operations (DFO) provides general management, supervision, and professional direction to a comprehensive facilities management organization that provides district wide custodial services and event support, landscaping and maintenance services to the Yavapai College District. Yavapai College has 2 campuses and 5 centers with over 800,000 square feet of buildings and 368 acres including sports facilities, residence halls, and off campus housing. The DFO administers the day-to-day operations of the college through approximately 60 full-time employees and an average annual operating and capital budget of $11,000,000.
This position also is responsible for the long-range planning and implementation of preventative and planned maintenance to preserve the college's investment and provide a safe, well-maintained learning and welcoming environment for the college community.
The DFO is responsible for optimizing customer service within budgetary constraints and using a variety of software and hardware to increase departmental productivity.
The DFO plays a key role on the College's Emergency Operations Center.
Develop, recommend, and implement college policies, procedures, and sophisticated systems for facilities and utilities management, maintenance and operation.
Assist with district wide campus renovations including physical plant and infrastructure renewal and reinvestment.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements
BA/BS degree -or 8 years Class A or B general contracting license
8 or more years of increasingly responsible positions, managing one or more of the listed functions or services
Strong technical and conceptual long range planning skills
Evidence of the ability to work with administrators and faculty in a peer relationship
A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad variety of people using both oral and written skills
Ability to organize and delegate work so as to control a variety of programs simultaneously
Knowledge of management techniques, including record keeping, reporting, budgeting, planning, inventory control and cost, personnel and performance analyses
Demonstrated ability to adhere to institutional fiscal policies, personnel policies, State and Federal regulations, life safety codes, fire regulations and other sound planning and engineering practices
Knowledge of contract administration to monitor completion of work specified, examine expenditures, and approve payments; use of database software and statistical analysis; project management and preventative maintenance
Perform work or deliver a wide variety of items to different addresses and through different routes via loading, unloading, and operation of a YC vehicle
Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability toward the performance of job duties
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Master's level degree is preferred - or 12 years Class A or B general contracting license
10 or more years' experience in facilities management
experience working in higher education
Certified Education Facilities Professional (CEFP) or equivalent through a higher education Facilities Management Association such as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) or the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)
Knowledge of the various construction trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, flooring, and concrete.

- Direct Deposit: Paychecks deposited directly into the employee's bank account(s)
- Tuition Waiver: Eligible Full-time Faculty and Staff may enroll up to 6 hours; eligible dependents may enroll in a partial or full program of course work without payment of tuition, exceptions may be lab fees and market based additional fees
- Sabbatical: Faculty, professional and administrative staff may apply for compensated leave of up to a year after six years of continuous service
