The Role

This position will be responsible for working closely with the senior Finance and leadership teams' to provide analysis as it relates to strategic projects, budgeting, compilation of reports for board packages and assistance with quarterly financial statements.

This is a generalist finance role and as a result, duties and responsibilities are fluid and change day to day in response to the needs of the business.

Strategic Planning & Analysis
  • Assist executives in developing long-term vision or strategy by providing relevant and requested analyses and forecasts.
  • Assist in development of Key Performance Indicators to be monitored by management.
  • Assist in developing strategically relevant financial plan and forecast processes for the line of business that will identify the needs of the business and opportunities that will result in meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Provide financial input to the development of business strategies and in the review of performance.
  • Oversee the assessment, and evaluation of all proposed new projects to optimize the delivery of target outcomes for the right level of investment.
  • Oversee the financial modeling for strategic projects which accords with best practice and identifies risks, issues and assumptions which enables the senior management team to make and implement effective decisions and mitigation strategies.

Financial Reporting
  • Own and manage financial and performance reporting for the organization. Plan, direct and manage regular and ad hoc reporting and the financial analysis function of the Finance group.
  • Consistently prepare and analyze financial data in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of routine reporting and ad hoc data to STATSCAN, Broker Reporting, etc.

Management Reporting
  • Review performance summaries and dashboards prepared by the Systems Analyst and Senior Financial Analyst to verify accuracy of financial information and determine variances requiring further investigation and explanation.
  • Own monthly communication on business performance to management.
  • Own segmented reporting and business-level P&L, for both management purposes and preparing for additional disclosure to segments externally.
  • Ensure financial management reporting and processes are in place to support the ongoing and future needs of the line of business.
  • Develop regular reporting and analysis, including key metrics reports, board package, quarterly financial statements and conduct ad hoc financial analysis as required.

Budgeting
  • Assist the Management team with the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the line of business's financial status.
  • Provide ongoing financial modeling and analysis expertise to business partners.
  • Conduct the financial modeling and analysis to support the development of long-term strategic initiatives and business plans.

Financial Controls
  • Pro-actively manage capital expenditure, income and revenue expenditures for the line of business so that business targets are in line with the senior management priorities.
  • Manage risk and minimize losses through monitoring and control reports, ensuring compliance requirements, audits, and verifications are completed in accordance with company's policies & procedures and all legal, regulatory and ethical requirements.
  • Document and follow-up on any discrepancies to procedures, with significant operational risk and escalate as required.

Additional Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the accounts payable and broker commission function
  • Additional projects and analysis as assigned by the SVP-Finance.
  • Assist with financial support on M&A activity, when applicable.
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies, auditors and the general public.

Lead and Manage Staff
  • Champion the company's Vision, Mission and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
  • Recruit and develop the right people that believe in and reflect in their behavior MCAP's Values and culture.
  • Establish, monitor and communicate performance standards to direct reports reinforcing individual results, work quality, continuous improvement, teamwork and achievement of MCAP's objectives.
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture is established and encouraged.


What You Bring To The Team

  • 5 years working knowledge in accounting
  • Sound knowledge of compliance regulations for financial services.
  • Knowledge of Financial systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to analyze financial and investment analyses and understand how to use this information to drive projects that will impact the business.
  • Ability to interpret and question data inputs to financial models and support alternative recommendations as necessary.
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends while incorporating this into the financial plan.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to manage complex projects through to an end point
  • Ensure key information is provided to team regarding business issues, changes in account status, etc.
  • Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
