    The Opportunity:

    The Director of Capacity Building anchors the organization's place-based strategy and engagement with local partners across California and the country. The Capacity Building team supports community partnerships, drives capital flows and co-advances policy campaigns to address the economic losses associated with redlining. The team's goals are to strengthen the capacity of under-resourced neighborhoods to advance equitable community-driven solutions, and collaborate with partners to shape and advance Greenlining's equity agenda. The Director of Capacity Building manages a team that supports communities from the ground-up to develop the capacity needed to lead their own transformations and deliver direct, tangible, and significant community benefits. The Director also manages and leads change in the structural conditions from the top-down by co-advancing a Greenlining equity agenda with our community partners.

    The Director of Capacity Building leads and manages a place-based team, representing our geographies across CA and the country. In addition to working directly with the Capacity Building team, this role will collaborate closely with Greenlining's policy teams and leadership to co-develop and advance Greenlining policy campaigns. Externally, this role will build strong partnerships with community partners, advocates, government agencies, technical assistance providers, funders and other stakeholders.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff in the department.
    • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
    • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
    • In consultation with HR handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policies & or CBA.


    Program Responsibilities:

    Strategic Direction and Oversight
    • Drives team strategy that develops and implements a comprehensive community capacity building strategy in alignment with the organization's mission and vision
    • Provides strategic leadership in close coordination with other directors to advance local, state, and federal policies that advance racial and economic justice
    • Serves as a thought leader on capacity building and systems change, representing the organization at events, panels, and in media
    • Participates in organizational development and strategic planning activities to effectively advance Greenlining's vision and strategy
    • Collaborates across functions to develop high-quality, proactive and responsive programs and policy strategy with corresponding organizational and financial plans
    • Oversees and monitors compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations as related to community capacity building


    Capacity Building
    • Build collective strength with local community partners to advance shared climate and community development priorities
    • Oversee the design and execution of initiatives and projects that advance equitable community-led climate solutions
    • Collaborate with community partners to conduct community needs assessments, develop priorities, identify funding opportunities, support grant application development and provide technical assistance
    • Maintain strong partnerships for the long-term with community-based partners
    • Lead community engagement efforts to involve impacted communities in policy and program development
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with stakeholders such as public agencies, academic institutions, and funders


    Policy Advocacy
    • Mobilize community partnerships to co-develop and advance GLI policy campaigns at the local, state or national levels
    • Direct the team's advocacy efforts by identifying policy priorities, developing strategies, and measuring outcomes to ensure goal achievement
    • Advocate for racial, climate and economic equity policies by articulating compelling arguments and evidence-based solutions to decision-makers, community leaders, and partner organizations.
    • Develop and facilitate trainings at the intersection of community priorities and state-level policymaking
    • Incubate innovative community development practices and policy concepts to address the legacy of redlining
    • Conduct research and analysis on the intersection of racial, economic and climate equity


    Staff Leadership & Management
    • Directly responsible for recruiting and supervising professional and support staff working on Capacity Building
    • Proactively aligns individual workplans with team level goals and organizational aims and uses rigorous methods and systems to keep projects on track and achieve team goals
    • Cultivates growth in all core competency areas including Communication, Collaboration, Strategic Innovation, Technical Expertise, Adaptability and Accountability
    • Encourages professional development by promoting a growth mindset, providing stretch opportunities and coaching staff on career progression strategies
    • Provides leadership in cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace culture to attract, retain, and motivate an exceptional, high performing team
    • Oversees mentorship and supervision of Academy participants and provide support to team members working directly with Academy participants
    • Support staff alignment with organizational priorities and collaboration across teams
    • Carries out supervisory duties consistent with Greenlining's policies and applicable employment laws


    Fundraising and Financial Management
    • Prepares and manages the team's budget to ensure organizational and programmatic needs are met while operating within legal and budget parameters
    • Maintain effective financial practices and stewardship of the organization's resources
    • Support the implementation of annual fundraising plans and other revenue models to ensure long-term financial sustainability
    • Work in partnership with the Development team to secure funding that meets the team's budgetary needs
    • Develop strong relationships with existing funders and cultivate relationships with new supporters
    • Manage grant-funded projects, ensuring proper execution, tracking, and reporting


    Communications and Stakeholder Relations
    • Broadly and strategically promotes and positions the activities of the team's goals to ensure that the organization is consistently presented to relevant stakeholders
    • Guides the development of a coordinated communications strategy to effectively tell the story of Greenlining's work and incorporate strategic communications into our advocacy
    • Builds strong ties with and helps galvanize The Greenlining Coalition - a diverse group of community-based organizations that have banded together around a common vision of social justice
    • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with other allied community groups and organizations
    • Represent the programs, policy positions, and point of view of the organization to agencies, community partners, funders, and the general public via writing, speaking, conferences and other engagements
    • Develop strong relationships with existing funders and cultivate relationships with new supporters
    • Write industry proposals and in-depth research papers with strong, coherent policy and business analysis.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
    • 1 Years of Executive Non-Profit Leadership Experience (may include experience at the Assistant Director level.
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required. Master's degree in a related field preferred
    • Demonstrated commitment to Greenlining's mission, vision, values and goals and an understanding of the intersectionality in Greenlining's work, culture, and workplace
    • Strong commitment and experience in advancing equity and inclusion for people of color
    • Deep experience and expertise in related policy area
    • Working knowledge of the local, regional and national landscape, including key stakeholders, data points and trends for the work done by Greenlining
    • Ability to effectively facilitate outcomes-oriented meetings, retreat activities, and/or workshops
    • A consensus-builder with strong emotional intelligence to relate to, understand and lead a team
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain people-centric engagement strategies
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to confidently speak and represent the organization in local, regional and national forums
    • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, to meetings and conferences throughout the state and possibly other locations.


    SALARY: The Salary range for this full-time, exempt role is $112,000 - 151,000. The final offer is dependent on qualifications and experience. New hires can reasonably expect an offer between $112,000 - $131,765.
