Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the position of Director, Healthcare Simulation and Experiential Learning. The Director, Healthcare Simulation and Experiential Learning is located in the Nursing and Allied Health. This is a full-time position.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare and Instructional Design
Certification Required:
  • Accredited Healthcare Certification
Required Experience:
  • Possess a minimum of five years of experience as a registered nurse or nursing educator within the past ten years.
  • Possess a minimum of three years teaching experience as a nurse educator in higher education
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and educational best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and compliance standards in higher education.
  • Experience in online education or e-learning platforms.
  • Ethical/ legal principles and professionalism in the healthcare industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with healthcare policy, regulations, and industry trends

Job Concepts
Director of Healthcare Simulation and Experiential Learning will be responsible for the leadership, development, implantation and management of simulation-based education and experiential learning program. This role ensures the integration of innovative simulation technologies and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical and non-clinical competencies for students, faculty and healthcare professionals. The director also oversees the operations of simulation labs, including budgeting, staffing and maintaining accreditation standards.

40% Administrative Leadership and Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and implement strategic goals, planning, budgeting, and operational processes aligned with BRCC's vision, mission, and values.
  • Oversee inventory control, ensuring all equipment and supplies are functional and accessible, while leading accreditation efforts for the simulation center.
  • Manage scheduling to optimize resource utilization for students, faculty, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with academic and external stakeholders to design initiatives and operational strategies with measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health to prioritize activities, deliver performance reports, and monitor progress on key objectives related to finance, academics, and quality.
  • Develop a plan to pursue and maintain Simulation Center Accreditation
  • Develop/present/defend program budget
  • Develop and maintain grant funding reports
  • Submit requisitions for purchases
  • Complete annual budget review of program

30% Innovation and Technology Integration:
  • Lead efforts to integrate new technologies and learning platforms into academic programs to enhance the learning experience.
  • Promote and support the use of digital tools, blended learning environments, and other innovative teaching methods.
  • Encourage faculty and staff to adopt innovative instructional strategies and provide training on best practices for teaching and learning technologies.

15% Technical Simulation Operations:
  • Operate and manage high-fidelity manikins and simulation equipment to simulate realistic patient scenarios.
  • Program, control, and troubleshoot simulation software to adjust patient responses based on scenario flow.
  • Act as the "voice of the patient" during scenarios and provide theatrical support by portraying healthcare professionals or patient roles.
  • Coordinate pre-simulation activities, including scenario programming, equipment setup, and prop preparation.
  • Provide audiovisual and IT support for live streaming, recording, and reviewing simulation sessions.
  • Coordinate unit plans for the program with faculty.

5% Faculty Development & Support:
  • Train and mentor faculty and staff in the effective use of simulation equipment, technologies, and best practices.
  • Conduct simulation orientations for new faculty, students, and staff.
  • Recommend and facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance simulation teaching skills.
  • Serve on committees appropriate to the position
  • Participate in college activities

5% Professional Development
  • Engage in training on high-fidelity simulation software systems (travel may be required)
  • Engage in training on CAE software (travel may be required)
5% Other duties as assigned
