The Opportunity :
Reporting to the Vice President, Maple Leaf Agri-Farms and Hog Procurement, we are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Hog Procurement to lead and manage our hog procurement team. This critical role will be responsible for developing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring a consistent and high-quality supply of hogs to meet production needs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of livestock markets, industry regulations, and relationships with independent producers and colonies, combined with strong leadership and analytical skills.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:
  • Strategic Planning and Procurement:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive hog procurement strategy aligned with company goals.
    • Ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of hogs to meet production demands.
  • Supplier and Producer Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hog producers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Negotiate contracts, agreements, and pricing structures with suppliers to secure reliable and competitive supply chains.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address issues to ensure quality and compliance standards are met.
  • Operational Oversight:
    • Oversee the logistics and transportation of hogs, ensuring timely and safe delivery to facilities.
    • Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and operations teams to align procurement with business requirements.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure procurement operations adhere to all regulatory and animal welfare standards.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to track procurement performance and market trends.
    • Provide regular updates and insights to senior leadership on procurement strategies and outcomes.
  • Work Environment
    • Regular travel to supplier locations, production facilities, and industry events. Candidates should be comfortable working in both office and agricultural environments

What you will bring:
  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture or Business is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 1 0 years of experience in livestock procurement, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of managing procurement operations in the livestock or agricultural sector.
  • Strong knowledge of hog production, market dynamics, and industry regulations.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and procurement software.
