Qualifications
- Oversee all district academic extracurricular programs for elementary, middle, and high school students.
- Interpret and enforce UIL and district rules and regulations regarding interscholastic competition and eligibility.
- Lead data collection, training, and communication to campuses regarding district goals and student participation in extracurricular activities.
- Prepare presentations related to the Local Accountability System and student and teacher involvement in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
- Prepare and administer operational budget to ensure the needs of all school academic competition programs are met and operate within the prescribed budget.
- Work closely with Human Capital Management and the campus administrators to ensure that all coaching vacancies are filled and that stipends are paid.
- Work closely with the Communications Department to market the competitions via social media and press releases.
- Maintain an active academic extracurricular activities department that promotes good sportsmanship and student development; ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to make academic extracurricular competitions more effective.
- Oversee the preparation and approval of all interscholastic competition schedules and locations.
- Oversee transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town academic competitions.
- Oversee the process of researching and selecting study materials used in academic competition preparation.
- Oversee all elementary, middle school and high school academic competition programs including educating coaches to department policies.
- Provide information to academic competition coordinators, principals, and coaches regarding district and University Interscholastic League (UIL) policies, and provide clinics and workshops for coaches.
- Develop schedules and oversee programs for elementary, middle and high schools.
- Organize and attend academic competitions at the District, State, and National levels as applicable, and promote academic competition involvement at campuses.
- Maintain accurate records of coach agreements, training/meeting attendance, and competition participation for stipend verification purposes.
- Collaborate with teams outside of the district regarding budget, schedule and location of competitions.
- Confer regularly with academic competition coaches to identify areas of need and visit campuses as necessary.
- Document all results related to academic competitions following each event and prepare reports and related correspondence.
- Compile and maintain all required physical and computerized reports, records and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education, and district policies.
- Evaluate department members and provide opportunities for growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a directly related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid Texas teacher certificate preferred.
- Five or more years of directly related work experience to include preparing students for academic competitions; 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrate knowledge of academic competition rules and regulations related to each event at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Demonstrate knowledge of academic competition stipend requirements.
- Demonstrate ability to interact and communicate effectively with student, staff and parents.
- Demonstrate ability to define problems, collect data, establish fact, and draw conclusions.
- Demonstrate ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
- Possess good communication skills.
- Demonstrate ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from district personnel, parents and the general public.
- Demonstrate a knowledge base of the University Interscholastic League compliance guidelines.
