Job Summary
The Director Imaging Services has the responsibility of planning, directing, coordinating, and managing the human, material and financial resources to drive high quality, high service/satisfaction, and cost-efficient care for patients. The Director will oversee all operations and functions related to outpatient and inpatient imaging system-wide to include radiology, computer-assisted tomography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI, PET and interventional radiology services. The Director will collaborate with nursing and ancillary departments, physician practices and system leadership.

The Director Imaging Services has the responsibility of planning, directing, coordinating, and managing the human, material and financial resources to drive high quality, high service/satisfaction, and cost-efficient care for patients. The Director will oversee all operations and functions related to outpatient and inpatient imaging system-wide to include radiology, computer-assisted tomography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI, PET and interventional radiology services. The Director will collaborate with nursing and ancillary departments, physician practices and system leadership.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Manage and direct activities and staff with the department and its offsite locations.
- Ensures scheduling and work assignments promote the smooth and effective delivery of patient care at all Medical Imaging locations.
- Implements and maintains quality initiatives and programs for all imaging modalities.
- Monitors all staff to ensure compliance with safe radiation practices as well as DNV, DOH and AART standards and regulations.
- Reviews all image data for technical and image quality, exposure ALARA, positioning and compliance with established imaging protocols.
- Ensures staff and providers receive timely assistance with trouble shooting and correction of any PACS or equipment issues.
- Proactively shares information throughout the function and organization. Communicates ideas and goals clearly and is an effective listener.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures to support Imaging Services.
- Develops and role models excellent customer service, positive professional relationships and teamwork with providers, leaders and staff in all departments.
- Participates in departmental patient rounding to ensure patient expectations are met. Also rounds with direct reports when they round on staff.
- Assists with the financial and strategic components of the department.
- Oversees the DNV (Det Norske Veritas) survey process for Medical Imaging.
- Assists in acquiring and maintaining ACR (American College of Radiology) accreditation for all imaging modalities.
- Responsible for the training of physicians, staff and students in the proper use of PACS.
- Acts as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments.
- Proactively shares information with staff and promotes a collaborative team environment.
- Serves as a technical resource to staff.
- Ensures equipment is functioning effectively at all times and that supplies are readily available. Meets with sales and service representatives for radiology specific equipment and products.
- In partnership with the Vice President and Human Resources, makes decisions on hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other human resource issues in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.
- Ensures all staff and new hires have the orientation, training and resources to complete their assignments. Facilitates and promotes employee growth and development.
- Is flexible to take call as needed to ensure supervisory coverage of the department.
- Maintains licensure in one or more modalities.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Graduate of an accredited radiology program.
- Bachelor's degree in a Health Care field or equivalent work experience.
- 7 years of experience in a licensed medical imaging modality.
- 4 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Considerable knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment operation in diagnostic imaging modalities.
- Proven leadership qualities, e.g., maturity, job knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.
- Very strong customer service orientation, positive attitude, highly self-motivated, directed and change oriented.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal, written and listening skills.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with MS Office and Epic EMR, and able to learn new software rapidly.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians.
