Work Shifts
8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M
Job Description
1. Actively collaborates with the NYC/NYS DOHMH in the investigation and reporting of exposure incidents, cluster, or any emerging pathogens public health issues.
2. Serves as liaison with outside agencies and inter hospital departments.
3. Ensures that education and counseling on infection prevention is available to health care staff, volunteers, students, patients and visitors.
4. Collects data to track and trend healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and submit reports to appropriate committees and departments as per hospital protocol.
5. Assures that surveillance is performed in all patient care areas, departments and support services to determine infection prevention and control risks.
6. Acts as subject matter expert on various committees as well as providing consultative services to internal and external customers.
7. Provides feedback to regulatory, advisory, and accrediting agencies regarding opportunities for improvement in standards and guidelines. Consults on the development of policy, procedures, protocols and standard work.
8. Contributes to knowledge of leading practice through research, publication, and presentation at conferences. Critically evaluates research and evidence-based practices and incorporates appropriate findings into routine practice, policies, protocols and educational strategies; disseminates best practices to appropriate departments and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Holds and maintains Certification in Infection Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection
Control and Epidemiology (CBIC); and,
2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Medical
Technology, Public Health, Nursing or a related field; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time paid
experience in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity, in the development of
infection prevention and control programs, analysis and reporting of health care-associated infections, and
other related infection prevention and control functions in a hospital or a health care setting; or
3. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in fields, as described in "2" above; and three (3)
years of satisfactory, full-time paid progressively responsible experience, as described in "2" above, one (1)
year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and/or experience. However, all candidates must have at
least a Bachelor's degree in fields, as described in "2" above, and hold and maintain a CIC Certification.
