Compensation Range:
$104,350.00 - $155,350.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. Leads the research, analysis and documentation of accounting treatment of investments in accordance with SAP, GAAP and IFRS in policies and position papers. Ensures department alignment and coordination with all other areas of the company to achieve corporate business strategies and vision.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates the accounting implications and relevant accounting guidance for new investment strategies, including documenting accounting policies and position papers for investments.
- Coordinates communication with external advisors as well as local accounting offices to ensure clear understanding of investment risks and exchange of data for proper accounting results and reporting.
- Works with other functional areas in the Company to achieve efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices and procedures and responds to and requests from other functional areas on various inquires.
- Assists teams that prepare month-end, quarter-end and annual reports for assigned Investment Accounting areas. Ensures compliance with GAAP and statutory guidelines.
- Reviews and analyzes Investment Accounting information ensuring accuracy of data and value-add reporting. Participates in the design and structure of Investment Accounting solutions that lead to efficient controls and processes as well as improved reporting. Works with various business units to ensure information needed is provided in a timely manner.
- Mentors and gives guidance on the development of Investment Accounting staff and fosters a team environment to ensure collaborative work to accomplish department goals. Establishes and monitors quality goals, reviews work completed by staff, ensures quality Investment Accounting practices and communication to associates and management.
- Works with internal departments to assure integrity of data and reports and continually evaluates quality of information for accuracy and compliance and works to resolve various reporting and process flow problems.
- Collaborates with other members of the Investment Accounting leadership team to develop goals that align with division and company objectives and then manages to those expectations.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration or equivalent related work experience
- 10+ years insurance accounting, auditing or Investment Accounting experience
- 5+ years supervisory or management experience
Preferred:
- Master's Degree
- CPA certification
- Progress towards FLMI or CFA Charter
- Public accounting experience
- Advanced experience with GAAP accounting
- 3+ years insurance/reinsurance accounting experience
Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Advanced level Word, Excel and SQL/Query skills.
- Highly advanced level of people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility.
- Advanced ability to analyze and improve business processes.
- Highly advanced knowledge of accounting/finance, including broad business practices, investment accounting, GAAP and statutory requirements.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received.
- Advanced investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously.
- Advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines as well as translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions.
- Advanced customer relationship management, change management, persuasion and negotiation skill when working with internal/external customers.
- Ability to resolve conflict and foster teamwork.
