Responsibilities:

The Director, Learning Experience & Performance Lead will drive transformation by leading a team of Master Trainers, Instructional Designers, Learning Technologists, and Performance Specialists. This leader will set a high bar for excellence, develop premier talent, and drive data-driven learning strategies that deliver measurable business impact

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & High-Performance Team Development
  • Lead a high-impact team delivering best-in class learning and performance solutions across established and new sites.
  • Foster and uphold a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coach team members to grow leadership, upskilling and career pathways.
  • Track and handle performance metrics to ensure strong execution across global initiatives.


Learning Strategy & Design
  • Define a data-driven, GMP-aligned learning strategy that scales across new and existing sites.
  • Integrate performance data into design to boost effectiveness and workforce readiness.
  • Standardize development and delivery to support rapid deployment and quality outcomes.
  • Leverage digital learning, AI tools, and immersive experiences to modernize learning.


Performance Improvement & Human Error Reduction
  • Identify skills gaps, learning trends, and inefficiencies using advanced analytics.
  • Partner with sites to deploy real-time performance support, especially during new site launches.
  • Design proactive, performance-based learning to reduce human error and increase efficiency.
  • Build predictive tools to drive continuous improvement and training optimization.


Learning Development, Delivery & Effectiveness
  • Guide the deployment of training programs aligned to business priorities and compliance across established and new sites.
  • Create onboarding and upskilling frameworks that enable GMP readiness and speed to productivity.
  • Centralize toolkits and knowledge systems to support scale, retention, and accessibility.
  • Ensure solutions are sustainable, scalable, and data-informed - ready for launch and long-term success.


Innovation, Collaboration & Operational Excellence
  • Champion tech-enabled learning - AI-driven, adaptive, and automated - for better engagement and scale.
  • Build strong partnerships with Quality, Manufacturing, IT, and HR to align L&D with business and site-readiness goals.
  • Embed continuous improvement practices to stay ahead of industry benchmarks and support rapid new site readiness.


Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Leadership
  • Avise senior leaders on workforce readiness and training effectiveness with a focus on both established and emerging sites.
  • Represent MQ L&D in global governance and cross-functional forums - ensuring strategies meet enterprise goals and site needs.
  • Engage with external vendors and industry bodies to benchmark best practices and guide innovation across the network.


Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, Manufacturing Training with a focus on regulated environments.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.


Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Master's degree preferred, in Instructional Systems Technology, Performance Technology, Adult Learning, Human Resources, or related experience/education.
  • Experience in GMP-regulated environments, specifically manufacturing and quality.
  • Knowledge of training governance, audit readiness, and inspection preparedness.
  • Skilled in modern learning tools - AI, immersive tech, LMS, and data-driven platforms.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration across Ops, HR, Quality, and global teams.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, solve complex problems, and drive outcomes.
  • Strategic thinking and change leadership in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Business acumen and data fluency to inform decisions and drive performance.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Team management experience.
  • Preferred certifications: CPTD, HPI or similar.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$122,250 - $179,300

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
