Responsible for the mechanical development team of the Quebec City site, you will also provide functional management of sites outside Quebec that have mechanical resources. Your job is to standardize mechanical engineering development processes and collaborate with other R&D or application directors/managers, project managers and product managers to ensure sound management of the group's resources. Responsible for the mechanical development team of the Quebec City site, you will also provide functional management of sites outside Quebec that have mechanical resources. Your job is to standardize mechanical engineering development processes and collaborate with other R&D or application directors/managers, project managers and product managers to ensure sound management of the group's resources. You are a key player in the company's product development efforts.
As Director, Mechanical Engineering, you will have to:
- Plan, organize and supervise the activities of the mechanical engineering group at the Quebec City site to execute product development projects and customer orders with "customization" at the expected level of quality and within the costs and schedule.
- Actively participate in the maintenance of products by collaborating with the manufacturing engineering group.
- Implement and continuously improve our tools and processes to increase the autonomy and efficiency of teams.
- If necessary, provide functional support to mechanical engineering groups outside Quebec in order to harmonize work methods and development processes.
- Ensure active collaboration between teams allowing a strong agility of the function.
- Ensure proper management of the IT tools used by the team (SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM and occasionally SolidEdge).
- Actively participate in the definition of the company's new mechanical platforms in order to meet the needs of future products that will be developed.
- Analyze and recommend the best avenues when creating new product lines in order to maximize the scope of the mechanical investments made by the company, to harmonize technical aspects and to see to their evolution in a coherent manner;
- As part of the product development process:
- Verify and approve certain key documents to ensure the progress of projects.
- Actively participate in system design reviews.
- Work with project managers and the PMO to assign mechanical resources according to defined corporate priorities.
- Provide a technical judgment of a mechanical nature on future projects with regard to the challenges and risks envisaged, identify possible solutions and the best mechanical resources for these projects in the group
- Estimate resource needs (employees, subcontractors, equipment, skills...) to ensure that the mechanical engineering capacity meets the needs of the business.
- Maintain active and transparent collaboration with product teams.
- Ensure proactive management of the team's efficiency and performance. Ensure the hiring (or firing) of staff, provide training and conduct annual performance evaluations.
- Ensure a mechanical technology watch in collaboration with the VP Technology.
- Be attentive to the development of artificial intelligence tools allowing efficiency gains in the work of the mechanical team within the company.
- Other relevant related tasks.
What makes you an asset to our team:
- Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering.
- 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design or high-tech product development.
- Bilingualism English/French and skilled in written and oral communication.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM software
- Experience in mechanical project development with strong integration with electronic components.
- Good knowledge of normative elements in mechanics (environmental tests, ROHS, etc...)
- Strong leadership and good business acumen.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once.
- Working knowledge of product development processes.
- Autonomy, enthusiasm and ability to work in a team.
- Sharp judgment, professionalism and rigor.
- Good synthesis and creativity in the proposed solutions.
- Available to travel on occasion.
- Experience in a management or leadership role will be an asset.
- Knowledge of SAP will also be an asset.
