About GCCA:
The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) is a trade association that serves the global temperature-controlled supply chain industry, otherwise known as the "cold chain." We represent organizations that handle, store, and transport the food we eat. We have 1,300+ member organizations in 92 countries around the world. The GCCA is comprised of four separate entities: GCCA Warehouse, GCCA Transportation, and the GCCA Foundation. This position will work across Warehouse, Transportation, and CEBA to drive membership growth and business development.
Director of Business Development
We are seeking a highly driven Director of Membership Sales and Business Development to lead our efforts in North America while collaborating with international directors across Africa, Europe, Brazil, and Latin America. This role will focus on developing new business in both membership and non-dues revenue-related sales categories, while building and nurturing relationships in key global growth markets. This role will have responsibilities in non-dues revenue generation in regions across the world.
Position Overview:
The Director of Membership Sales & Business Development will be responsible for driving revenue growth through the acquisition of new members and securing non-dues revenue, including sponsorships and exhibit sales.
This position will lead business development efforts primarily in North America and regions outside of international office markets, while working closely with international directors in Africa, Europe, and Latin America to drive sales in those markets.
The role will focus on building and fostering strong relationships in the core membership categories, which include the warehouse, transportation, and construction sectors, while developing strategies for growing membership in key global regions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prospect, Develop and Close Membership Sales: Lead efforts to acquire new members, driving membership growth through targeted outreach, prospecting, and relationship-building strategies.
- Warehouse & Logistics Focus: Lead efforts to target and expand membership within the warehouse and transportation sectors, identifying opportunities for growth in these critical industries.
- Non-Dues Revenue Sales: Secure non-dues revenue by closing sponsorship and exhibit sales, working closely with the marketing and events teams to deliver value to sponsors and exhibitors.
- Lead Membership Recruitment & Non-Dues Sales Efforts: Oversee business development activities in North America, driving membership and revenue growth while managing the sales pipeline.
- Global Collaboration: Work collaboratively with international directors in Africa, Europe, and Latin America to build relationships, expand membership, and explore new business opportunities in their respective regions.
- Global Expansion Strategy: Spearhead efforts to identify and acquire new members in growth regions around the world, including emerging markets and high-potential areas.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate long-term relationships with non-member companies, including prospective members, sponsors, exhibitors, and industry partners across regions.
- Negotiation & Closing: Lead high-level negotiations, ensuring successful deal closures with prospective members, sponsors, and exhibitors.
- Market Intelligence: Continuously analyze market trends, competitor activities, and member needs to refine strategies and improve sales efforts.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, operations, and international offices to ensure alignment on goals and maximize business development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in business development, sales, or strategic partnerships, with a proven track record within a trade association (highly preferred) (or similar) international business sectors( highly preferred)
- Strong background in B2B sales, partnership development, and/or membership growth within an industry association or similar environment.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire, lead, and motivate teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (additional language proficiency is a plus, especially in key international markets) to effectively convey robust, complex and nuanced, member value propositions.
- Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven experience in high-level negotiations and building relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., C Suite, industry leaders, government bodies, supply chain partners, etc.)
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
