GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Director, New Brunswick Center serves as the lead administrator and is responsible for all day-to-day operations at the Center, including personnel, facilities, academic, and student services. The Director collaborates closely with the Assistant Dean and with various internal and external stakeholders.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:
  • Recruits new students and conducts various outreach initiatives with program expansion as a major goal.
  • Provides for student and academic support services for Center students.
  • Manages a staff of professional and support personnel and oversees their training, motivation, and performance appraisal in collaboration with the Assistant Dean.
  • Recommends course offerings and cancellations, based on student needs, and schedules times and locations to Assistant Dean.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluations of programs and faculty, makes recommendations for changes when appropriate, and develops programs when necessary in collaboration with the Assistant Dean.
  • Maintains close working relationship with the New Brunswick Public Schools, as well as other neighboring school districts such as North Brunswick, Highland Park, and East Brunswick; Provides programming for and services to its students, as requested and where appropriate.
  • Coordinates promotion and publicity with the Marketing and Communications Department.
  • Collects data to support funding proposals and actively works with the Assistant Dean and Grants Department to develop funding requests.
  • Serves on various College, county, and state committees, task forces, and advisory boards.
  • Maintains regular liaison with the local business community, both to serve their needs and elicit their support.
  • Manages the Center's operational and capital budgets in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Urban Satellite Centers and Community Initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree;
    • Three (3) years' experience in counseling or advising in a higher education environment;
    • Two (2) years' administrative and program development experience;
    • Two (2) years' supervisory experience;
    • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office;
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; and
    • English/Spanish bilingual.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge of Colleague or other student record system.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

    • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
    • Hearing 1: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
    • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
    • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
    • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
    • Talking 1: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
    • Visual Acuity 1: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.


    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

    SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    May require occasional travel
